Went to George Square in Glasgow today to see a new world record being set. I was very impressed (even if I did have sweaty palms watching). The following text is taken from local newspaper:

"HUNDREDS of people watched in amazement today as escapologist Shahid Malik defied death in a stunt 164ft above George Square.
He is believed to have set a new world record after escaping from a strait-jacket while dangling upside down at the end of a burning rope.
Shahid, 49, had just four minutes to free himself and be lowered to the ground before the rope burned through, which would have sent him plunging to an almost certain death.
Wearing a black vest with a Superman logo, he was strapped into the strait-jacket by volunteers from the crowd of 2000.
His wife Lisa strapped him to the crane, set the rope alight and signalled for him to be hoisted up.
The crowd, who included Lord Provost Alex Mosson, watched in stunned silence as Shahid struggled to free himself. There was no safety net to catch him if he failed.
World-famous escapologist Harry Houdini once performed a similar death-defying stunt - but only at 50ft.
The same stunt has killed three escapologists - two Americans and a Briton - in the past few years.
However, Shahid completed the stunt and is believed to have set a new world record. He beat the unofficial height record for escaping from a strait-jacket suspended from a fixed structure - currently 150ft. "

Before Malik did his stunts they played two songs while they were waiting for him to begin, the first was Ronan Keating's "The Long Goodbye" , the second was David Sneddon's "Don't Let Go" Bit sick if you ask me considering he could have ended up as pulp:teeth:

Wow...poor taste in songs I agree!

I bet it was facinating to watch though:D

Wow it's great to be able to say you were there !!! But I'm sorry those songs were a it poor taste - it would have been awful if he'd died doing the stunt.

Wow! I don't think I could have brought myself to watch!!! Well done Shahid :) !
