How much do you put back each week to save for your vacations? Do you figure the total divided by the number of weeks before you leave? What strategies do you use? Just trying to figure out if there's a better way for us to save for our vacations.

I divided the number of weeks until we leave by the package amount and that is what I save per week.

I do it a little differently. I save for one thing at a time and pay for it. Such as my tickets. I buy them before the trip and when I save enough for the one ticket then I buy it. It is nice to be able to see that my trip it coming along.

This time we are doing the MWW w/ Dining so we have divided up the hotel and dining and our one day ticket and every two weeks I put the money I need to on my Disney Online reservation. I really enjoy watching the amount I own go down. Best of luck to you. :flower2:

I make a budget based on the tickets that I already have and will need to purchase, the number of FF free tickets I think that I can get, the cost of meals and the room.

Once the budget is set, I divide it by the number of months that I have until the scheduled trip. Then I set up monthly automatic transfers to my Disney Savings account thru my bank.

For souvenirs and extras, I do the change jar. Whatever is in there when the vacation rolls around is what I get to spend on extras.

I decide where we want to go that year, figure ALL costs, then divide by 12. I then save that amount each month.

I divide the amount by 52 and set that amount aside each week in my checking account. I "deduct" it in MS Money, by putting "WDW" in the check number column. Then all I have to do is a search on "WDW" and I delete all the entries and purchase travelers checks with the money.

Luckily I've only had to do this for a few vacations (this one included), but it works well for me. Of course, I do the same thing when I use my American Express card, by placing "amex" in the check number column, so the money is already set aside when I pay my bill, so I'm used to doing this.

I looked at my previous vacation habit and divide it per my biweekly paycheck.
And since I'm a dvc member I don't have to worry about lodging payment (that comes out of a separate acct). So my vac budget is usually for flight, food, souvies, and other essentials (parking, tips, etc.). Altho when I travel not to wdw I'd have to add lodging in there too.
That amt is direct deposited to my vac savings acct and I don't see the $ in my regular checking acct, so I won't dip into it by mistake.
It's been working pretty well for me.

:cool1: we save for our trip in segments, air, hotel, rental car, food, park hoppers, once one thing is paid for on to the next. ............ :hyper2:  we also save disney dollars for spending money. works for us !
