Saving money on Park-Hopping

This might already be obvious to everyone, but I just recently noticed it. If you're wanting a park-hopper (on a regular ticket, without no-expiration), you can potentially save money by just getting a longer base ticket, and using multiple days in order to change parks. For example, it's cheaper to get a 10 day base pass than a 4 day park hopper pass! Assuming you are not trying to enter all 4 parks in the same day or something, and you're not going for too long, this will almost certainly come out better. In addition, if you are getting the "Plus" option, you'll get more pluses by making the base ticket longer.

Of course, going with the no-expiration option changes this around.

Hope this helps someone!

I don't think Disney allows this. Others may correct me but I think each ticket can only be used once per day. You may be able to do this with 2 different tickets per person but I am not sure how much you would save.

No, you can't enter two parks on the same day with the same ticket if it is not a hopper. They wont let you use two different days of the ticket. You can do this with the plus options, however.

Ah, well thanks for the correction - potentially saved me (and any others!) some significant problems... So, if I'm wanting to park hop on only one day of my trip, it looks like the only option is to pay for the park hopping pass option.

It does not work. When you put in the ticket the turnstile will indicte "access denied". On the greter side it will give information about the ticket and show "Used At ?? Today" (with ?? being identifier for the park). The non-hopper allows only one major park (and no minor parks) per day.

We don't mind the new program. It is worth the cost, IMHO.

Over time, you could buy hoppers and non hopper no exp. tickets (buy ten day tickets for trips that are less than ten days, if this fits your style)..then if you were only going to hop on certain days, you could swtch off tickets.

Or buy a single day ticket along with your multi-day ticket.

Thanks for the replies. One new question, though, raised by an earlier response: is the 1 park per day limited to the major parks, or does that include use of plus options? For example, could I visit MK in the morning and DQ in the evening (if I don't have the "hopper" option)? I was under the impression that this was OK (i.e. the pluses were handled separate from the main park admissions). But, clearly I was already wrong once...

Yes you can do MK and DQ in the same day- that would take up one plus and 1 park day.
You also could do BB in the day and DQ at night and that would take 2 plusses-
The only thing you can't do is 2 major park days.

I think I understand what was being asked, but I am curious if I have it right. Could the person buy 10 day passes, no hop, and if the person went to a second park on the same day, would it take a second day off the pass? So the person could go to two different parks each day on a 5 day trip and have used all the days up?

Could the person buy two sets of 5 day passes and use one from each set each day? Or would that not be a cost savings from park hopper?

One major park/day is all that is permitted under the MYW base tix. Can'[t see why you just wouldn't add on the park hopping option @ $35+tax (6.05% I believe). Assume you could use the "old" Park Hopper tix (no biometrics involved) the same day, but wouldn't make much sense IMO.

No. See #5 above.

A Five Day Base is $205.05 (including tax), so two of them would be $411.10. A five-day hopper is $242.82 or $235.37 (with advance purchase).

I was talking about the Base ticket (one park per day).

Base ticket (one park per day) is for the four major parks.

Hopper is one, two, three, or all four of the major parks each day.

Magic Plus is between two and five "plus options" based on the number of base days purchased. Each entry into one of the five minor parks uses one plus option. (Note rentry to a minor park on the same day does not use an extra option.)

A ticket can be base, base with hopper, base with Magic Plus, or base with both hopper and Magic Plus.

And then there is the No Expire option...
