saving for the extras

ginny -- if you are talking about the rewards (only) card for disney VISA card holders - yes that is true. i did that last year. You go online and transfer your "reward dollars" to the reward card and then take the "reward card" directly to guest services and they swipe the card and your balance is transferred as onboard credit.

i'm trying to earn as much disney reward dollars as I can before I go - so i'm thinking with the cash on hand savings I save, I'll buy disney dollars with my visa (deposit cash into checking acct to pay for them) so i'm laundering my money through the system and earning rewards bucks too. make sense?

has anyone bought disney dollars online at the website?

I've just applied for the Disney Visa. How does the rewards points work? Every dollar used you get Disney credit?

Tera...you earn 1 Disney Dream Reward Dollar for every $100.00 spent on the card. So, if your bill that month is $300.00 you would have earned $3 in reward Dollars.

Once you earn $20 reward dollars you can then tranfser the amount to a Disney Dream Rewards Card (like a gift card) and then bring that to Guest Service and they can transfer all or part of the balance to be put against your account. AFter your initial $20 earned I think you can transfer any amount after that which you have earned. It is also a reloadable card so once you have transferred all the reward dollars off of it you can start reloading it again once you start earning reward dollars again.

As you keep earning reward dollars you can keep transferring them to the card. You are allowed to earn up to $750 reward dollars per year.

Disney Visa has special promotions where you can earn $2 per $100 on certain things. They send a newletter that tells of all the special promotions going on.

Hello,
I just wanted to tell you that my family is scheduled for their 2nd Disney Cruise. The way our family saves for our cruise is we have a giant plastic jar. It was actually a barrel container of sourdough pretzels that we bought at sams. Anyway, everyday, every member of our family empties their pockets of spare change into the jar. In fact, we try not to spend $1 eithers and put those in there as well. Around 3 months before our cruise, we all sit down, count and roll the money and then divide it. The amount that you get, is how much each person has to spend on our cruise, with the exception of excursions - we include that in the cruise planning. It works out really well for us and there are not questions as to how much money you have to spend onboard. On our first cruise, we had roughly $400 to divide among 3 people. This time, we have the roughly now, and have until March to continue saving!!

Good Luck!

anyone can use the "penny arcade" at the commerce bank free of charge

someone also told me that a lot of walmarts have a farmers and mechanic bank in them - and they also have a free of charge coin counter

Thanks for the info. The Disney Store Mgr said she'd done it...but hearing from a fellow DIS member makes me feel better. Hmm...buying Disney dollars, using the Disney visa and paying off the visa with cash.... I LIKE IT!!! :) And you get points for the Disney dollars?
