It should cover our rental car!!! Airline, hotels and park hoppers are paid, rental car covered, just need to bring food/spending money. Life is good...:smooth:

We do the same thing...got us a big bottle that water comes in and always put extra change in it. Then when vacation comes we just go cash it in and have instant spending money!!!

Have fun..I know I will:D

Great idea! I've been saving my change for the past couple of weeks but didn't even think of using it for Disney, duh! Heck, I have a year to save! I should have enough to spend on food or souvenirs!

Thanks for the tip!

We bought a big crayon at ToysRUs for $5 and started adding change June 1st...just since then we have nearly 40.00 (yeah..we cheated and counted) - we cleaned out car ashtrays...old purses etc and we are letting my daughter cash that in for Disney Dollars as her 'spending money' so she has a budget too :)
It's so easy to save a little at a time like that...no one likes change, especially pennies, amazing how fast it adds up!!

Enough for a rental car!!! Wow!

I thought I was doing well, with about $75 or so....and I was going to blow it all on Mickey Bars....

We had only $50 or so. I have to speed up the savings. How long did it take you?

I had mine stolen from me when i was robbed about a month ago. I did start it back up and I have abotu 25 in there again! I even stop on the streets and pick up pennies or any change that I see! Hey it adds up!

We always empty it and use it for whatever vacation is planned. Like a previous poster, we also use an upside-down water cooler bottle. We call it "the money jar". Even the 2 yo contributes to it when she finds a coin lying around. (Better than in her mouth!) We emptied in over the winter and took the coins to the local Commerce Bank (other banks have them too) where they have a free coin sorting machine. It gives you a reciept and you just go to the teller for your cash. You don't have to have an account there (we don't). We got $677. then and more has accumulated since then. It's a great way to save w/o really feeling it.

WOW! 677$$$???
My littlest DD who will be 3 in August does the same thing...she searches for 'monies' to put in the crayon...it's a fun thing around here :) I think we'll continue to do it even after DisneyWorld...because we already robbed it once when we wanted to go to the drive-in before payday...LOL - we had enough plus munchies :)

I booked my trip in early April. Last 2 trips we saved hubby's change for the kids to spend along with their saved allowance. This time the kids are on their own saving their spending money and I thought I'd just see how much I can save to add to the kitty to spend on whatever, not thinking it would be this much. Things that helped speed up my savings: I always pay cash and never use change. If it's $1.01 I'll pay $2.00 and save the $.99. And we just moved last month, so change saved from trips to Lowe's and Home Depot added up pretty quickly. I got a little check for $15, went straight into the Disney Piggy Bank. It's quite painless, and fun to see how fast it adds up!
:bounce:

i do the same thing..anytime a bill comes up to 1.01 or whatever change amount..I always go to the next dollar up...its a rather painless way to say money...really. return bottles and cans.
We used the water cooler jug thing too. 2 years ago, my father and I started tossing our change into it. about 14-16 months later, my father called me into the room and said can you help me pick the jug up. I thought to myself...interesting..he can't pick it up. It was so heavy that it made huge dents in the carpet.

anyhow...since the two of us could barely carry it, we figured that we would roll it our selves. It took about 2 weeks and when we counted it up....$2300. Yup..thats right...$2300!!! we couldn't believe it! we were so shocked. It really didn't take much effort at all. it worked out well...since we were heading on a cruise a month later. we had plenty of spending money and paid off some bills on top of it!
:Pinkbounc :bounce:

We will be counting all of our change in the water bottle this weekend for our upcoming trip to Universal. I could not stand that fact that I wasn't saving for our Disney Cruise in 2004 so I went to the Dollar Tree and got a piggy bank for my DD and a crayon bank for my DS and one for my DH and I to share. We started putting a dollar a day into each of the kids banks (this is considered their allowance) and 2 dollars a day into our bank. Any extra change goes into the water bottle! In just the banks alone, if we keep doing the same think we will have over $2000 combined, we will let the kids use thier money for souvies, etc. I can't imagine what we will have when we include the water bottle!!!!!

Yee-Haa!!!!

Oops..I almost forgot...everytime I go to the Disney Store I pick up Disney Dollars....my DH doesn't even know that I am doing this. He-He!!

We have one of those big water bottles too! I am hoping to have enough saved to pay for our character meals. :)

Saving change is fun and painless! I have gotten into the habit of "looking down" for pennies and dimes whenever I am in public and it has really paid off--my biggest find was $40 (bills) in an empty rest room!

We never pay with change, put all coins into our giant crayon bank each night, and now we even add any singles left in our wallets at the end of the week.

Another idea I love--but have not done yet--is putting any money saved with grocery coupons into the Disney bank.

If it's $1.01 I'll pay $2.00 and save the $.99.

When I do this usually I get some teeny bopper that whips a penny out of her pocket so "I" dont have to break a dollar. Oh well dollar bills look nice in my Coke Bottle bank too. ;) Coke bottle's full now so we've been "Feeding" Donald Duck and Fred Flintstone.

We also have been collecting change since last October for our trip the end of August.

Money is not as tight as it was a few years ago, but I wanted to teach my children the saving can really add up. I also tell them it is for ice-cream bars at Disney. Besides loose change, I also have them help me cut coupons and put the money saved in the piggy bank. Also since we live near the beach we often get ice cream when we leave. At $6 for 3 children that adds up. Last time I suggested that we wait until we get home and eat Good Humor bars that I got for a $1 a box . We then banked the $5. They actually were happy to do it. I also have put money into it when we get $ unexpectedly. I'm guessing we have at least $500-$700.I have told them that they can each have 5% of the total for spending $
I figure the money will go to such things as the towncar service and tip. I also am planning on ordering pal mickey and guest of honor badges from giftsofalifetime. Also for tips for maid service. Of course some will be for ice cream bars

Life is good

Are my husband and I the only people in the world who actually spend the change in our wallets? I try to pay exact change for purchases made with cash. -HM

i've been doing this and plan to count it all tonight!

it might not add up to much but hey, anything is better than nothing right!? and unlike saving £1 coins and notes i am defeintly not tempted to "dip in" to the massive pot of 2ps and 1ps they're no use to me!

hopefully they'll pay for some disney souvenirs from my trip :-)

I just counted mine today. I have roughly 200. for my August trip.:Pinkbounc Im so excited. I did this last trip too, and I use it for spending money and stuff the kids need. It really took a bite out of what DH puts on his Credit cards. Everything adds up!!

I saved 634.07 this year by doing this. I count and cash in monthly because the coin jar was just too heavy to lift. I place all the cash in a giant plastic Heiniken bottle. I'm saving up to treat myself to Polynesian Concierge for my 40th Birthday. Since I still have 4 years to save, that and my E-bay earnings should get me a week if there is a code!;)
