i made these avatars to explain my position with Darfur. if you view them enough will be said.

these are avatars made by me to raise awareness and educate people about Darfur - a terrible genocide. I know some of these images are gruesome, but they are real and they are happening and they expose the true meaning of the war so I didn't censor them. I put the ones that talk about rape in url so if you don't want to watch don't click. they all advertise www.savedarfur.org, they are trying to get as many people as possible to join the cause, you can also donate relief supplies through world vision.

It amazes me how things like this still go eon in our world today....so much hate...Whats up with that...why can't we all just care for one another and our planet...why is that sooooo hard:confused3

I cringe and shake my head...:sad2: ....but I must add that I in my own selfishness have done nothing to get involved with it...thanks for bringing up this thread...I will research it more and contribute...

omg, I just posted something about that. I must have seen that title without actually perceiving it, and then went off and posted about it.

I don't understand how we can just allow an entire group of people be eliminated. Genocide sucks.

I was discussing this in my class on Friday. I brought it because apparently some people are completely unaware that this is happening,

Curious how many here care about "saving Iraq". Or is Darfur just PC because the celebs dujour say it's important?

BTW - I'm all for sending troops into Darfur, but I was (and still am) for freeing the people of Iraq from their former brutal dictatorship... because it's the right thing to do, not because George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey and Susan Sarandon get all teary eyed about it.

The good thing is we can all have different issues that are important to us. If we do what we feel led to there can be a difference made in all places. I have a dd who is very involved in Darfur support and I would say God bless to all who care. This isn't my issue as I have local concerns but the world isn't weakened because somebody is caring for something else.

If I thought for a minute that is what the war in Iraq was about I would be all for it. However no one including Bush has been able to convince me of that and they probably never will.

What I don't like is there are much worst things happening in Darfur and Rwanda (35,000 people killed per month as a result of genocide- thats ALOT of people). These groups of people may not exist anymore because of it. Lets face it, the war in Iraq has and never had anything to do with the people. I am happy that those people are benefiting but I am upset with the lies that were told.

BTW- this was never meant to be a political debate. The OP is just trying to spread awareness, because many people still have no idea what is going on. It haven't heard much form the media. I have never heard anything about it from a celebrity, but I also don't watch much TV (an hour a week- Greys Anatomy!!). This is something I found out about from a professor and then I went to a lecture about it.

How about Save New Orleans? Or Save the Gulf Coast Region?

I understand those things are necessary and we need to be concerned about them, but do you believe we should have sat back and let the Holocaust happen?:confused3

Honestly no I don't. And this wasn't really aimed at you. I think it is great that you found a topic that you are passionate about, I truely am.

However, I have seen celeb after celeb talking about Dufar(not that that in itself is a bad thing) but it seems here in our own country, we are forgotten. I watched a special with Diane Sawyer a few weeks ago about a city in New Jersey, it was awful. I guess what I mean is that it is wonderful to raise awareness about the ills of other nations, but we still have so many ills of our own. What about our own homeless? What about our children? This year's hot place to be seen helping is Durfar...when is it going to be New Jersey? Or Mississippi? Or Alabama? I guess it isn't as hip to adopt cajun baby as it is a child from Dufar...

I completly get your point. IMO our country would have been much better off had we had the resources to care for our own people, unfortunately that is not the case. I just feel like there is something we must do to stop this. I feel like we are just sitting by while an entire race of people disappears. I think our planet is in a terrible place, we cannot even help ourselves, let alone help others.

I do see your point though, there have definietly been the "hot" trends, which is sort of disgusting. I have seen so many of the Free Tibet bumper stickers, and yet I doubt that many of those people actually knew what they were talking about. It is just so unfrotunate that we have wasted so much of our resources in Iraq.

Thank you for making these avatars. I really care about Darfur and think it's important the genocide be stopped. We always look back in history and say "oh that was awful" but this is something going on now.

Sadly I believe the U.N. is no help in this situation -- they don't even consider it genocide what is happening. :sad2:

I would assume that international adoptions are often done because they are easier and faster. Less threat of rescinding. If you are wealthy, less threat of birth parents/family coming in for money or threatening to re-take child.

Thats a great point Tiggeroo. That is very true.

I work for a nonprofit that provides direct service to the homeless men and women of New York City and I would still never in a million years compare what I see every day to that of Darfur.

What is happening in Darfur is not dissimilar to what happened during the Holocaust. Those people are being tortured and murdered daily. 35,000 in a month? I don't see any comparison to any situation in our own country.

Not to sound like a total we-are-the-world guy, but just because it's not happening in my back yard doesn't mean we shouldn't help others. To limit assistance to US citizens is disgusting. We should do what we can because we are indeed more fortunate than so many others in the world. I may not share the same soil as others, but it doesn't mean we aren't still the same citizens of the same planet.

Besides, I also consider the fact that if we are to act as the world's police, we can also act as the world's care givers as much as we are able.

Wonderful post!! I really hope something can be done about this. We need a solution.

Honestly,I believe I am a citizen of the world... My G-d doesn't see borders..He doesn't care if the victim is in NJ or in Darfur...He wants me to fight for all of them..Frankly, stoping genocide is higher up on my list of priorities than anything else...I don't care where it's happening.
Is there a group practicing genocide on Cajun children?
