We love the Savannah DeSoto Hilton. Its in the historic area and you can walk down to the riverfront. Lots of little restaurants and cafes down there (there's also a very good restaurant right in the hotel - at least there was the last time we were there).

I've been to Savannah twice in the past year. Last year we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in the historic district. This year we stayed just a few blocks down E.Bay street at the Hyatt. While both were nice, we preferred the Hyatt. The easy access to River Street was awesome. Last year, climbing those stairs back up to E.Bay was a killer. If you have AAA, both have discounts, but we found Hyatt's AAA a better offer (rate discount, free valet parking, and free breakfast for 2). Holiday Inn Express only offered a rate discount (no free parking).

I'm sorry I don't have any brunch suggestions.

We recently stayed at the Country Inn and Suites. Nice rooms with microwave and fridge. Free breakfast.
