Savannah Guthrie’s mother missing

It seems that if it was a robbery, the backpack would’ve been empty in order to fill it with stolen goods, and likely other bags, too. What was in the stuffed backpack? I’m thinking it was a planned kidnapping with perhaps items needed for that (which I don’t really even want to think about). I also think it was a male.

I agree that it’s hard to get our elderly folks to do things they don’t want to do, too. My mother lived with us but trying to get her to use a cane, or use one of those “fallen and I can’t get up” buttons - forget it. Same with FIL, too - family bought him one and insisted he wear it (with frequent episodes hypoglycemia) but he always took it off. Some may be more cooperative than others.

@mjkacmom That’s very sad, and scary. Finding good, honest help can be a challenge, especially overseeing someone who’s so vulnerable. (In some cases it could even be a false sense of security.)

I think the plan was to kidnap her for ransom, but that she probably died of a heart attack shortly after and he just disposed of the body. I hope the family has closure soon.

If it’s totally random why continue once he's seen the Nest camera? Why take the time & energy to tear it down? It would be easier to just move onto a house with less surveillance.

What other security system did she have on the premises besides the nest camera and the floodlight they disabled? Did she have ADT or any other professionally monitored security system in the home, wired doors and windows, alarm system, etc.? Just wondering as I hadn’t read anything about that.

If it’s totally random why take her body? That makes no sense.
The whole thing doesn't make sense. People who commit such crimes just aren't "wired" to think logically. He probably panicked when it didn't go as he'd expected.

I thought I read there were in-home cameras (inside).

It is very much out of the ordinary for a random break in to turn into kidnapping or moving a body. Unless he realized who she was after he broke in and decided to kidnap her. The only other way I can see a kidnapping happening is if she was targeted.

It had to be targeted and the target is Savannah and money. A basic burglar is not going to kidnap an elderly woman from her bed.
