You come across as blaming and judging even if you are saying you don't intend to do so.I’m not blaming them in the slightest. I’m saying it’s going to be very hard for the children going forward dealing with the what ifs. That’s all.
I think the plan was to kidnap her for ransom, but that she probably died of a heart attack shortly after and he just disposed of the body. I hope the family has closure soon.
The whole thing doesn't make sense. People who commit such crimes just aren't "wired" to think logically. He probably panicked when it didn't go as he'd expected. If it’s totally random why take her body? That makes no sense.
I thought I read there were in-home cameras (inside). What other security system did she have on the premises besides the nest camera and the floodlight they disabled?

I don’t remember reading anything except the nest camera outside. The whole thing doesn't make sense. People who commit such crimes just aren't "wired" to think logically. He probably panicked when it didn't go as he'd expected.

Sure. I agree it's not "usual." But not the first time a random burglary went strange. A somewhat local case a couple of years ago, similar 80+ woman lived alone and disappeared. There has never been a motive other than likely the guy was on drugs at the time and didn't really "know" what he was doing. It is very much out of the ordinary for a random break in to turn into kidnapping or moving a body. Unless he realized who she was after he broke in and decided to kidnap her. The only other way I can see a kidnapping happening is if she was targeted.
Maybe I got that wrong -- I can't remember where I may have read it or heard it on the news. But something about motion sensors (maybe not cameras) inside?I don’t remember reading anything except the nest camera outside.
She may have had them disabled. They can be quite annoying at times. But something about motion sensors (maybe not cameras) inside?
Quite possible. It’s beginning to look like a senseless tragedy that began as a burglary. So, a guy known to prey on this area. Looking for easy targets.
Why take the body? B/c you killed her and think you left identifying evidence on it. In the home, that evidence would not degrade and might find you quickly. In the middle of the desert with the wildlife and temps, assuming it even IS found, you wouldn't be identified on it.
I assume he went in to rob the place...and she woke up and surprised him (maybe he thought empty house, maybe he thought asleep). He kills her in surprise (choking maybe? thus no blood in the actual house, but definite sized handprints on the victim) and then takes the body (and is forced to drag it, thus leaving a blood trail, b/c he wasn't planning on a murder and doesn't think to wrap it up or wrap it up well enough) and dumps it in the middle of nowheresville desert.
