Hi all,

We are stopping overnight in Savannah on our way to Dis in April. We will get there by about noon on Saturday and leave by 8AM on Sunday. Short trip yes, however, I would love some dining or tour recommendations.

Thank you!!! :thumbsup2

There are several companies that start at the visitor's center on MLK Jr. Blvd. We've done the Old Savannah Tours. They are awesome.

I would stay on for the whole 90 minutes, and then take the car around afterwards. We really enjoy exploring the squares and River Street. Make sure to go in the art shops on River Street.

We have eaten at the Chart House and at Paula Deen's Lady and Sons. They were both great. Other recommendations are Mrs. Wilkes boarding house, and the Pirate House Restaurant. We found Paula Deen's much easier to get into at night.

I would also like to try a carriage tour, but DH doesn't want to fork out the dough for the trolley and the carriage tours. Men!

If you need lodging, check out the President's Quarters bed and Breakfast. Wonderful with a great breakfast.

Well.. If he doesn't show up on this thread, then you should PM "Conan the Librarian". He is the foremost in Savannah knowledge on these boards.

Somebody Rang? I have become infamous?

So far...all good recommendations, though Paula's quality is down because she doesn't spend much time in the restaurant any more.

Did a Carriage tour this Christmas. We loved it, but then we didn't have to pay for it. :) You might want to try a Ghost Trolley tour. They are campy but fun.

Which weekend will you be here? First Weekend on River street is busy, but, they have lots of stuff going on.

You might want to check out the City Market area, about 4 blocks south of River St on Jefferson (near Paula's). Good food and shops there. We recommend Vinnie-Van-GoGos Pizza, but, bring Cash. They do NOT take plastic or check.

Other good food places in the Downtown area are Mrs Wilkes Family Style (if you can get in) and the River House. There is a tourist info booth under the Hyatt that can get you directions and coupons. YOu might also take the free boat ride across the river to the Weston. You can check out the food there, but, we've never eaten there.

Other things to do: The Telfair Art Museum and Jepson Center. A museum complex near City Market. Some great Art there. You'll want to check to see if there are any shows at the Savannah Theater or the SCAD Trustee's Theater.

All I can think of at 11:00 pm. Write me for more info.

Forgot to mention. If the temperature is in the 60s or 70s, you will want to have Skin so Soft. Why you ask? Because the dreaded Savannah Sand-Gnats come out, and I am not talking about our Baseball team. They are nasty little flying teeth that can cause itchy red marks and are very annoying. The Skin So Soft will keep them away. Just make sure you cover yourself with a light layer.

:worship: Thank you! We will be there April 18th-19th. Short trip just wanted to do something different! I was dying to try Paula Deens but have heard it was overrated! The Ghost Tour is a must!!!

Thank you again!

We took a walking ghost tour which was fun for all of us. We also ate in some restaurant that was supposedly haunted. We had a great time. Savannah is a beautiful place.

I don't know if Paula's place is over rated, it's just not as good as it use to be. It should be worth your time anyway.

As for the haunted restaurant, was it 17 Hundred 90? Some Ghost show did a report on it several years ago (not TAPS). They have good food all the same.

Keep in touch!

We ate at The Lady and Sons last August on our way home and loved it!!!! We can't wait to go back! We're heading back to WDW in October and are debating whether or not to drive or fly. The reason we are looking at driving is because we want to stop and eat at Paula's restaurant.:thumbsup2

We didn't eat at, but wished we had (needed a reservation), a place near River Street that I think was called the Pink House. We had a drink at the bar, and the place seemed to be great. We did eat at a sushi place that was really good, but I don't remember its name - sorry. We ate at Paula Dean's, but didn't really enjoy it. The ghost tour was great. I also recommend getting fresh bear claws at the sweet shop (don't remember the name-yes, it's a trend with me) on River Street. I brought several home with me and they stayed fresh for quite a while. YUM!
