Good morning everyone! I’m sitting here enjoying my morning coffee, reading the Dis and thought I’d check in with you all. Might be nice to chat this morning. It’s freezing cold outside, but bright, which is much appreciated. There’s been so much worry talk that I thought this morning I’d start a cheery thread this long weekend Saturday.

I’m on “holiday” for a few days. Took Thursday and Friday off from homeschooling. Baking, watching movies, enjoying the fire. We did takeout fish and chips last night.

This afternoon, I’m off to pick up balloons for my husband for Valentine’s Day. Will decorate a giant heart shaped cake later today.

It’s hockey Day in Canada! Who else is watching? Burgers for dinner in front on the game!

I hope you’re all well. Let me know what you’re up to. This has been such a lovely place to chat this past year. I enjoy hearing from everyone across the country.

Talk soon! I’ll try to post the cake when it’s done!

Good morning Quandrea :). What a nice idea. I’m all snuggled up on the couch with my two Labrador Retrievers and reading the Disboards with my coffee this morning. My husband and son sleep later on the weekends but I love being up early in a quiet house.
We don’t have any big plans for the weekend. I like to putter and cook and clean and keep busy.
We plan to do a quick driveby outdoor visit with my inlaws tomorrow. We will just stand outside and chat at a distance for a few minutes. We could easily FaceTime but there just seems to be a bigger boost in morale when we see people’s faces, even if only for a few socially distanced minutes.
We don’t do much for Valentines day but maybe I will bake something too. I’ll see what I have on hand !

Great to hear from you @pigletto. Valentine’s Day is pretty big here. All holidays are really. We are a family that likes to celebrate. On Valentine’s Day we are making heart shaped pizzas for dinner. We always make pizza on Sunday for our movie nights. I’ve ordered heart shaped pizza in the past, but will try my hand at it this year myself.

Just saw a fox run by in the backyard. Lots of wildlife here. We live on a ravine with a creek that traverses the length of it. Home to foxes, more coyotes than I care to count, deer, squirrels, rabbits, owls, hawks, cardinals, blue jays and more. Always something happening outside my kitchen window.

My oldest is downstairs doing dry land via Zoom with her swim team. She’ll spend much of today on school work. She’s in her final year of high school and is utterly slammed with school work.

I usually walk 5k with my 11 yo twins every day, but it’s so cold today, I think we will be on the treadmill. There does come a point when walking outside becomes painful and unpleasant. I’ve only used the treadmill once this season, but I think this week will see more use.

Take care!

Ive had my coffee already,,,sorry,,,just hiding downstairs as the new cabnets are getting installed. Hope to have them all done by monday.
Keeping the kids away,,,wife is taking them on a long drive,,,but not much to do with the weather and lock down.

I am doing my Mom's laundry as her washer doesn't work right now and then I will be doing some curbside pickup of food from a local restaurant.
Tomorrow is Daytona 500 day for my family and I and I am getting ready for my virtual Daytona 500 party tomorrow. I should have been celebrating at my friends house with a big party but my stand in bears will be attending for us. I will be having race day food tomorrow (haven't decided quite what yet) but my nephew and his girlfriend will be enjoying a nice Valentines dinner after she gets home from work at 7:30pm. My brother and I will leave them be in the dining room and let my nephew do the cooking and serving. They both live with me.

That’s very kind of you in regards to your nephew.

Re, the hiding. I did that last Monday while my furnace was being repaired. Strange times.

I'm just staying indoors and keeping busy washing all the floors.
I did run out :car: this morning to the drive thru pick up Starbucks valentine's cookies and gift cards for my son and daughter inlaw for
Valentine's Day tomorrow. (I might have picked up a thing or two for myself...lovely new mint green thermos.).
I need to get some motivation to get back to doing some rebounding today ,,Brrrr too cold to go outside for a walk.

Stay warm and cozy everyone!
Hugs
Mel

I'm sitting here on the sofa enjoying reading about life that continues on as I recover from emergency gallbladder surgery (31mm gallstone plugging things up). All went well and I just need to slow down and recover so I'm watching movies and reading DIS.

The surgery timing wasn't the best. I can't eat my favourite foods now for Valentines or the chocolate covered almonds I bought last week but I'm healthy again now and for that I am thankful. Maybe someday a few weeks or months from now I can indulge myself a little.

I'm thankful that our medical system (while it has it's faults) works well and quickly in an emergency. I'm sorry to the people who had elective surgeries that got bumped because of mine. I'm also happy to have made it through the 24 hour hospital stay without other incident.

:goodvibes Us too - it's the little things! When Valentine's Day falls during the work week I always have a heart-shaped pizza from Boston Pizza delivered to DH for lunch. :lovestruc

Not sure how we will celebrate tomorrow but we've promised each other that since the unbelievably brutal cold snap seems to be waning, we are getting out of this house this weekend to go somewhere other than work and back!! Even if we just go for a drive towards the mountains now that the road conditions aren't so life-threatening, it will be a treat. I'm on-call for work this weekend so I can't unwind 100% but it does always feel like we've turned some sort of corner when we reach the first civic holiday of the year. It's been a cold, dark, loooong stretch since Christmas.

We're not hockey fans but I have developed a bit of love for the Raptors over the past couple of seasons and we're enjoying that; there's a game tomorrow night. The 2021 Scott Tournament of Hearts starts next week too, and then the Briar, such as they might be this year. We love curling and I can't wait. :cheer2:

DH and I were reminiscing about the '88 Olympics this morning, mostly in relation to the weather. They took place in what was literally the warmest February week in recorded weather history here in Calgary. No snow and about 8C ever single day. What a fabulous time everybody had. :cloud9:Great memories and so incredible to think it was 33 years ago. Where does the time go?

It's a quiet day here, so cold! I went and picked up a bit of McDonalds breakfast, kiddo wanted sausages and hashbrowns, he doesn't like the sandwiches but just the plain sausages. I got a coffee. My oldest cat hurt his leg and has been confined to the guest room to convalesce so I spent some time in there with him this morning and will again this afternoon. Hard to tell if he injured himself or fell off the bed or what, will be going to the vet next week. He does seem to be getting better but I'm keeping him locked up until then. The other pets keep trying to get in there. And he keeps trying to get out.

Otherwise, kiddo is doing ok, playing online with some friends and we'll watch a movie tonight probably. No plans for Valentines Day here, my parents sent kiddo some money so he can buy himself a treat, we'll wait until next week since Ottawa is moving to Orange which means some places are reopening (I think).

@ottawamom that does not sound like fun! I had mine out quite a few years ago and remember the stones that had me in hospital for almost a week. Do not lift anything! Wait at least the 6 weeks. Eating wise, take your time and try things out. My surgeon said I didn't have to do anything special after, just the day or so right after to take it easy but then I could eat as I pleased. Glad you are home and doing better.

I had yesterday off and Monday as well (work for the Feds and it's not a holiday for them, so had to book the time off, even though it's Family Day in Ontario and everything is closed). It's nice to have a long weekend and a bit of a break, but man I wish the weather wasn't so cold!! The sun is nice but deceiving. Looking forward to spring and warmer weather.

Doctor said I could go back to normal diet after recovering for a bit but this is the wake up call I've needed to get my eating habits under control.

I'll try to only eat healthier as i recover and maybe I'll feel so much better I'll stick with it. With the occasional treat every couple of weeks.

We'll see.

Hi Mel! I’ve just sat down after a morning of baking. Cake and cookies made. Will post pics in another post. Haven’t been to Starbucks since my last trip to Disney in Feb 2020. Crazy!

My sister have both had gallstones removed. Not fun. Hopefully you’ll be well so and now you know that you’ll be better than ever. I do agree about our healthcare. It’s not perfect but it’s never let us down when it’s counted. We’ve had a few emergencies over the years and my loved ones were cared for quickly and well.

My dd played curling years ago. She became interested in it during an Olympics and joined a club for a time. Then she joined swimming and there was no looking back. We are big Raptors fans as well. My son absolutely loves watching basketball.

Can't file your taxes until Feb 22 this year (electronically, which I'd suggest this year as it will be faster, no idea how long paper will take with social distancing to be enforced in the tax centres, normally they pack those people in but can't this year). I'm still waiting for the free software I use to get updated to include the simplified work from home credit. I don't want to waste part of my refund paying to get my taxes done.
