I do not know much about Satellite Television but after hearing how good the Travel channel is, I'm looking into it. In our area, we would have to pay for both the channels that you get with satellite and ABC, NBC and CBS. So if we decide to make those two payments, will there be any additional payments? I guess we have to purchase one of those round things to install on the roof?

I'll tell you how ours works. When we got Dishnetwork we paid $199 for 1 dish and 1 receiver, installation inlcuded. They offered a rebate back at the time of $199 so it didnt cost us anything. You had to go with the top 150 channels--which is all channels except HBO, Showtime etc. We really like it. We had an additional receiver so we pay another $5.00 a month for that one. You ahve to pay extra for local channels but we dont. All you have to do is tunr off your satellite and watch regular TV. I have no idea why someone would pay extra for that
The only bad thing is if the weather is really bad you will lose your signal. It doesnt happen a lot but does happen. We are happy with ours.

Thank you. You mentioned that you have no idea why someone would pay extra for that - but, don't you like to watch ABC, NBC or CBS?

I have directv and for an extra $5 I can get the local channels...ABC, NBC etc. I don't pay extra for that as I use an indoor antenna that works great.

I had Direct TV, on one TV, with local on basic cable. Then Dish came out with 2 TVs and local for the same price I was paying Direct TV/Cable America, so I switched. Now we can watch all channels in the LR or BR. The only channel that Direct TV had on basic that Dish does not have on Top150 is Outdoor Life. The satellite has never gone out, except during one really bad thunderstorm, I really like it. I don't have any HBO, Show time, etc, but I get Disney East and West. Food Network, HGTV, TLC & BBC America are all broadcast in Eastern time, which is nice, I don't have to stay up late.

What is the difference between Disney East and West? Also, does the satellite company install the dish?

I do like to watch them. I just turn off my Satellite and watch them on regular tv. Your tv will still get all your local channels just turn off the satellite. Turn it back on when your ready to watch it again. Thats what I mean I dont know why people pay for that when they already can access it.
There will be local companies that do satellite installation.

We have Dish network, but we didn't buy it, just leased it.
No charge for the receivers, just mo. programming fee.
One note about local channels- we live in a rural community where our closest tv station is 70 miles away. We happily get our locals for $5.00 a month because without it, we would get none of the network stations (ABC, NBC, ect.).

I dont know if this is alot to pay but my husband pays around $69.00 and we have it in 5 rooms. We also got some special and he got a rebate on what he spent to get started. He was also able to upgrade the one in the living room with that TIVO thing . LOVE that for sure :D

The east west difference in that they show the shows in those time zones. There is some overlap, but not very much. The movies are different too. When I got Dish, they installed it and they own the equipment, so if it breaks, they fix it for free. I owned my Direct TV equip, and sold it to comeone a while back.

With satelite , if you don't pay to get the local channels , you need a roof antena or you are incredibly lucky to get reception if you do without it , I know because I had it in the past. I had dishnetwork and I got rid of it , went back to cable because it was cheaper for me and I didn't have to buy more equipment to hook up more tv's.
