sat nav systems in Dollar cars

I notice you can rent a sat nav system from Dollar for around $10/day. has anyone done this, and if so, what was it like to use. Was thinking about buying our own system, and getting the correct maps for it. But may not bother if there's a low cost option like this.

We have booked sat nav on our dollar rentals, £50 per week per car.

Will let you know if it's any good as never ued it before here or on hols.

I've not done it, instead I've chosen to get the maps for my UK one. That said, $10/day is reasonable, and if you're going for it, you should book in advance as they give the usual 'subject to availability if not pre-reserved'.

They normally use either Garmin Streetpilots or TomTom units, both are easy to use and pre-programmed with all major parks and destinations.

I looked into Sat Nav hire for our Easter trip and found some UK companies that would send you the unit 48 hours prior to your trip, so that you could programme it, and then you returned it within 48 hours of arriving home

Cost for 3 weeks was £100.

If you're thinking of buying your own anyway I, personally, would do so

Thanks all. As we already have a built in sat nav system in our main car, buying a portable one (which we'd use in dw's car) is probably a luxury too far!
Still need to convince my better half we should go this summer anyway!!!!

I'd be cautious of going down the route of buying foreign maps for a UK-bought satnav anyway.

True, there are many different systems, but for my Garmin, official USA maps can cost £280...
