Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Jan. 30-Feb. 8, '09

They could actually cut the room rates way back and still make money on them. Room rates are based largely on supply and demand. Most of the cost of running a resort are fixed costs...costs Disney the same amount of money whether 1 or 100 rooms are rented. They just have to cover the cost associated to the room itself when it's rented like the labor for mousekeeping and the electricity and more busses...stuff like that. So even if they break-even on the room rental they make money on all the tickets, food and souvenirs that you buy. It's better to make less profit then no profit at all.

That concludes my Tourism Economics 101 class for today.

Ah-ha! That makes sense. But I don't know if my calculator can handle calculations of another discount! My husband is begging me not to change the dates, but I can change anything else if need be. Poor soul. :lmao:

Thanks, Prof. Heidi!

Seriously, I can't believe all this talk of another discount! My goodness. Whatever will we crazed DISers do? :rolleyes1

I plan on having another trip to get all in a tizzy over! Hopefully there are some ridiculously good bouncebacks while I'm there for Food & Wine...

Ummmm......I've heard the same thing about dropping a new discount on the day of the parade...............and, um...............I heard that it is supposed to be an even BETTER discount than the 4/3 promotion.......GULP............just saying that's what I've heard.................that's all...................hope that doesn't send everyone in to hysterics...............................now Christmas is going to seem to take FOREVER to get here even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH MAN! I'm going to have to send my TA a fruit basket after all of this! :rotfl:

Holy cow, we've only got 56 DAYS TILL DISNEY!

And yeah, I'm SO not ready. All this holiday business is interfering with my planning time. THE NERVE! :santa:

I posted this for my fellow Lapu Lapuettes, and thought I'd share it here as well; this is a Puerto Rican egg nog type drink that is absolutely delicious! I'm posting the non-egg version because it's just as thick and rich and it's way easier!

Coquito

30 ounces coconut milk (not cocounut water!)
14 ounces condensed milk
1 cup Bacardi rum
1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix all ingredients in the blender. Taste and add more rum if you like it stronger. You need to add the water because it will get thicker later in the fridge. Pour into a bottle and refrigerate well. Make ahead for richer flavor. Serve in small glassware.

It's not the holiday season till somebody brings out the RUM! :woohoo:

Today, dear readers is day 56 till Disney! And while it's not an otherwise momentous occasion, it is for the purpose of this PTR for the fact that we're exactly 8 weeks from our first trip to the World!

For that reason, I present to you a new DAILY feature of this thread...

The daily countdown has begun!

I've worked for months (truly) gathering trivia and tidbits matching the number of days we have left until our big day. Today is day 56 (as aforementioned) and so I give you... our first trivia tidbit!

On this day, December 5, 1956 Walt wrote his sister Ruth her annual birthday letter, describing his strenuous work schedule, his daughter Sharon and her modeling career, and his other daughter Diane and her growing family. Enclosed was a check for Ruth to spend on "some feminine luxury."

55 Days till Disney!

At United Kingdom's Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room in World Showcase, a specially designed ale warmer can heat your Guinness to 55 degrees, the temperature favored by Brits.

WOO HOO for 55 DAYS!

And I'm lovin' the trivia. I had no idea about the ale warmer. Mmm...Guinness sounds so good to keep me warm at Epcot at night. :thumbsup2

Cool trivia! That is going to be so fun to log on each morning to get Disney trivia.

Warm Guiness? Ewww. ;)

Thanks for the recipe! We always have Mexican food on Christmas Eve at my parents' house and this year I will be bringing chicken enchiladas and a great big pitcher of coquitos! Now I just need a dessert that matches that!

I'm glad you like it... even though you're IN DISNEY SOON. (Now?)

Tres Leches cake! (Three milk cake) That's the perfect latin dessert!

Today's Trivia!

54 million cubic feet of dirt was excavated to build Epcot!

I just saw that my ticker says 1 month and 22 days.... FREAKED ME OUT! What is it about the culmination of all this planning and organizing that scares the crud out of me?! I'M NOT READY!

53 DAYS TILL DISNEY!

Walt was 53 years old when Disneyland opened.:goodvibes
