Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Jan. 30-Feb. 8, '09

I am so so excited for you!! Port Orleans Riverside just looks beautiful!! You will have a fabby time there!! :goodvibes

It really does look beautiful and I cannot WAIT to see it in person!

YAYYYYY! CONGRATS!
Not the next time, but the time after the next time I stay at a Mod, this is where I'll be staying. :goodvibes

Oh really? That makes me feel good about the choice!

Does anyone have any experience at Tokyo Dining and San Angel Inn? I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do for those ressies I need to change, and since we'll already BE in Epcot these two are on my short list...

We ate at San Angel Inn on this last trip. I will admit, I was worried about this one. I hadn't heard a lot of great things, but it was on my "I've always wanted to eat here..." list. So we did.

I was NOT disappointed. The atmosphere was great. Lots of families there. The food was wonderful. Actually better than a couple of other meals we'd had and one of my favorite desserts of the week was here.

It'll be making an appearance in my next TR chapter, with pics, hopefully posted early next week.

Oh, sweet! Where IS San Angel Inn? Is it the one indoors near the Mexico ride? The menu looks fantastic...

Yes, it is. The atmosphere was the #1 reason for me wanting to stay there.

For such an "open air" restaurant, I was surprised by how loud it wasn't. The spacing can be a wee bit tight, but you can always rope your children to the chairs if need be. ;) We didn't get to sit right by the water, but we were close.

The Cast Members were so friendly and helpful. Multiple servers bussed us if they saw we needed something. And we weren't in the best of areas - right by where they stack plates, refill drinks etc. (if you're facing the volcano, we sat in the last two seats of the booth table in the far back left of the restaurant).

The menu. I'm guessing you guys are probably more familiar with 'traditional' Mexican/Latin American food than lots of other people are. I found that a lot of the reviews I read where people were disappointed stemmed from the fact that people were thinking more American-Mexican (read: glorified Taco Bell).

I won't make you wait for my TR - they start you off with nachos and wonderful salsa (and I'm not a huge salsa fan). Missy and I both had the Filete Montuleno.

Oh.
So.
Good.

The filet was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the plantains, which I normally don't like were cooked to perfection - firm, not mushy. The only part I didn't eat were the poblano peppers as I'm not a huge fan. Missy had the flan for dessert. She said it was good. I didn't try it as I'm not a custard/flan fan either. I had the white chocolate bread pudding with golden raisins and caramel.

Sweet.
Lord.

A.Ma.Zing.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to you. To anyone really. It was such a pleasant surprise and it is on my ADR list for my September trip next year.

I love you so hard right now.

That confirms that this'll be our final dinner reservation- we love traditional Mexican food, as opposed to the Tex Mex stuff we're used to here in the states. My DH is Puerto Rican but grew up in El Paso (Texas), and I'm from So. California where Mexican is king... Our date nights are almost always at an authentic place we found here in Nashville... Our WEDDDING dinner included nachos and Corona... that about says it all. LOL

Thank YOU!

Okay, many many apologies. Lately, I've been doing a lot of reading updates, thinking I've responded, and not having responded. :lmao:

Congratulations on the new resort!!! I'm so excited for you, and I think you'll really, really enjoy it there. Plus, you get the benefits of being able to go over to French Quarter if you desire, and that's cool, too. :thumbsup2

Thank you, everyone's really excited about the resort move- it just looks so incredibly beautiful and quintessentially Southern!

Happy Election Day!

I hope everyone has already voted in the early polling states or are taking the time to vote today, no matter how crowded analyzers believe it may be! :crowded:

No matter what your party affiliation or political leanings, everyone has the same ONE vote... Get out there and use it! :thumbsup2

Was it you who stayed there recently, Jackie? I remember seeing pictures of Alligator Bayou or something like it in someone's TR...

We stayed at French Quarter -- we stayed at Riverside in 2004. Ampc3 stayed there this past June.
