So normally if we have to stay @ SS we stay in Congress Park due to the ease of the walkway to DD. Now with that closed do you guys have any recommendations for other room locations in SS?

I wish I could say for certain but we have always stayed at Congress Park for the same reason. ;)

I would think The Springs or the Grand Stand for ease of using the boat to DTD or perhaps the other walkway going to the West Side.

Good luck!

We like the paddock because of the pool and waterslide right next to the buildingand we were in

I prefer the springs because of the proximity to the restaurants

and my morning coffee

We really enjoyed the Paddock area. We requested and got the building near the bridge, so our walk to the main building was very easy. We even walked back from DTD on the path from the Westside that comes up by the boat dock. It was a long stroll but doable. We weren't in a rush just wanting to work off a little of our meal, lol!

Loved this location. Our DS spent lots of time in the pool and we were in a studio so there was laundry, a mug refill station etc.

Congress Park, DTD view is a fave but in lieu of, Paddock, love the new pool/bar area!

We love the Grandstand, short walk to the boat at Springs, Artist Palette, and Turf Club. Has it's own themed pool, water play area, and pool bar.

I Like the Springs as well, very close to the restaurants and check in. We have stayed at The Springs and Congress Park, and were very pleased with both. I think we would like the Paddock area too. Good luck!

Thank you guys for all the responses and recommendations! I think we're leaning Paddock or Springs.:confused3

Another vote for Grandstand.

Closet to boat to DD
Closet to golf pro shop
First on first off buses
Hottest Hottub at pool

I have stayed in Congress Park and Paddock - both are great locations!

Paddock would have never been on my list until they did the great pool improvement and QSD location.

I would say that the Springs is a great location as well.

SSR and OKW are both built very much like massive apartment complexes - not hotels. I really think that SSR and OKW are targeted more for self sufficient guests. You don't pass through communal space each time you return to the resort, you don't have much need for the front desk or services offered there - so it doesn't matter how large the resort is, you pass through the lobby on the way in... and possibly on the way out.

When we drive and have our car there for our use - I really prefer to stay at OKW or SSR. Being able to park right at your building - just a couple minutes away from your room is so convenient! Unlike having your car at BWV which is a total pain in the rear end! I REALLY feel sorry for the valets at BWV.... and other resorts that require them to sprint a mile to retrieve a car! It was pouring the rain at BCV when we were there a few weeks ago and the poor valets still had to run in the rain! UGH!

But anyway - when you think about what area would be best to your family, you really have to make a top 5 list of what your needs are, and what goods/services your family will have need of during your stay - and what type of pool you prefer, and what your bus/transportation preferences are.

A PP said that they like the Grandstand because it is the first on/first off the buses - I would hate that - I don't like cruising around the resort, stopping at every stop on the way to the parks in the morning. Even if I have to stand on the way to the park - I want to be one of the last stops.

Look at the map, and see what will work best for your family!

Jumping on. DH and I just booked SSR for an adult-only golf-bar heavy 3-nights in April. It'll be our 1st trip "home". We just left OKW and he loved it and wanted me to book SSR for April instead of trying for BWV. His specific hope was for the walk to DTD but the boat is just as convenient I guess, especially since it docks at Westside.

So I'm thinking Grandstand for proximity to pool bar and boat to DTD. Thinking that will be late night transfer as we hope to do JellyRolls one night.

Golf-bar...now you're talking! However I would NEVER choose SSR over BWV! LOL Maybe that's just me though, everyone's got their favorite. For my family, it's BWV & then everything else.

As a side question to the OP's post----the walkway to DTD is closed?? Does anyone know how long it will be closed for (or why)?

We recently stayed at SSR and asked for a DTD view Congress Park room, but the only room available was in the Paddock. We took it because we really wanted to just get into our room after traveling. I decided this was actually a great location! The Paddock has an awesome pool/pool bar and great proximity to the bridge to the restaurant/main pool etc.

Also, I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to do this, but one night we were walking back from DTD and didn't know where the walkway to SSR was. If you keep walking about 20 more feet, you get to the driveway to SSR that the buses go in and out of. We would just walk in/out of there every time we went to DTD. Again, I don't think it's sanctioned by Disney Bc there weren't any sidewalks, but it did lead right to the Paddock....just an idea in case the walkway is closed for some reason.

Disney is redoing DTD...so need the walkway to be empty. So, it will be closed. There is an alternative walkway, over behind the boat dock..actually to the right. It is a bit longer and drops you off by Cirque.
