Hi - I am a Vacation Club Member at the Beach Club Villas but will be staying at the SSR for the first time during Christmas week (12/25 - 12/29).

Q - does the SSR resort have elevators in each of their buildings?

Q - can anyone recommend a preferred area within SSR to stay. I think I would like Congress Park with the quiet pool and view of Downtown Disney, but I am open for comments/suggestions.

Thanks!

not sure about elevators
I suggest you ask to be near the main pool and dining area/general store. It would be much more convenient if those areas were easily accessable to you - that is if you typically use them. If you don't, than anywhere is nice.
The resort is huge!!
have a great trip!

ADA requirments say that all buildings over one story must have elevators.

We liked Congress Park:

1. Quick walk to DTD

2. Close to the exit (driving off site)

3. Quiet location and good views

One other option besides Congress Park would be the Grandstand. It is not that far of a walk to the main pool and Carraige House (maybe just a little farther than CP), plus it has it's own "themed" pool. Does not have a view of Downtown Disney, but it is surrounded by the golf course. One big difference is that the Grandstand is the first bus stop and Congress Park is the fourth. You are pretty much guaranteed a seat at the Grandstand.

This fits the description of The Springs. We stayed there last October - short walk to the pool, Turf Club restaurant, Artist's Palette, bus stop, etc. It was a fabulous location!!!

Actually, thats not true. ADA requires that, for hotels of 500-1000 units, at least 2% must be accessible. All other rooms do not have to be accessible by elevator (think HHI). I think that all of the SSR rooms have elevators, but I don't know for sure, and they don't have to by law (unless Florida Accessibility Code dictates that it does, but that would be a new development).

We were in the last room in the last building of the Grandstand area. Here's our thoughts:

Pros:
Great quiet pool with a really fun splash park. The splash park is much better than the main pool.
Quiet section with a great view of the golf course.
The building is new and the room was very nice.

Cons:
What a hike!! The pool was halfway to the Carriage House and the walk to the pool was long. This makes it really inconvenient to visit the Carriage House frequently. Our last trip was a pool only trip and I found that we made it to the main pool once. It was really inconvenient to rent movies, participate in activities, etc. because the distance to the Carriage House really was a factor. My son ended up with severe blisters from walking back and forth. Forget the bus system. I don't think we ever figured it out because just as we thought we read the sign correctly, the bus driver said something else. It took forever to get a bus. We went to the Artiste Pallette one night and it took 45 minutes to get back to our room. We waited 25 minutes and then decided to walk to the room which took 20 minutes. UGH! Then my order was missing stuff!

If you want to go to the Grandstand area I would suggest having a car. That makes it so much easier. Also, if you are going to the parks, the bus system seemed to work fine. We saw plenty of buses.

I requested the Springs and have found that location is really convenient to all the goings on of the resort.

Good luck!
