Does anyone know how they are getting on with this?! We are travelling in November and would love to know if they will have a 'show home' ready to look round, and does anyone know when the points will go on sale?
Thanks

They are in the midst of ground preparation right now. The old DI townhouses have been torn down and the site is being readied to lay sewers, electrical utilities and roadways.

I took some photos this morning I'll try get posted later. Completion date has not been officially announced- just sometime in 2004. There will be no models to view until sales begin...and that's unlikely to happen until BCV ends sales.

Stay tuned!

Does anyone have any idea what their point structure will be like? I suppose that kind of thing isn't usually announced until closer to opening up sales?

Spoke to a couple of CM's last week. SSR is scheduled to complete in 4 phases, with the first phase opening about May-July timeframe, 2004.

Phase I will be along the lakefront across from downtown Disney. When you take the Trumbel ferry from OKW you can see the construction that is taking place, quite clearly.

Phase I will be a 'hotel' like structure. In other words it will be like BCV, BWV or VWL villa units with interior hallways, etc. It will however be 100% DVC and not a 'shared' Disney resort like BCV, BWV, VWL are.

Phase II and III are not clear yet (At least not being public yet) but apparently will be some kind of stand alone units. This could probably be anything like OKW units, or HH or VB units, or something totally different. Speculate as much as you like on this one.

Phase IV might possibly be the Treehouse Villas. Again this does not appear to be firm. One CM said they were told this was correct while another CM said it wasn't firm at all. In any case as most already know the treehouse villas will probably not be torn down as it is an environmentally protected area, and if they are torn down, Disney cannot build anything there in it's place. So whether they will or will not become DVC....well, as always take everything with a grain of salt.

Disclaimer: CM's have been known to give incorrect information in the past. I'm only passing on what I was told. As always, nothing is firm until the official press releases.

Thanx for the interesting report, Caskbill.
Just to let you know, we are going to hold your feet to the fire on the deatails. If you are off on one little detail, we here at The DIS will form a posse, find you, and make you ride 'It's a Small World' 100 times in a row. :teeth:

Apparently the preview center has plans to move to Celebration in the not too distant future. We shall see.

Thanks for al your info. I read in 'Mousetips' that they were ahead of schedule and that they may start taking reservations this year?! Is this in any way accurate? I'm so excited every time we have a new resort! Can't wait to go and check it out in November!

We were at OKW over the holidays and took the boat to Downtown Disney on several occasions. From everything I've seen (artist renderings, etc.), read and heard, Saratoga Springs looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, and cast member opinion is that it will be a very popular resort.

Maybe it has something to do with my age (not all that old, mind you), or perhaps I just absolutely wear myself out when I'm at WDW, but a good night's sleep is kind of important to me. From my room at OKW, the late night Pleasure Island fireworks sounded like they were right next door. At Saratoga Springs, they will be practically right next door. (I assume it was Pleasure Island fireworks -- it was midnight!)

I don't want to sound like a party pooper here -- just making an observation. And, having said all that, I still think it's an interesting and desirable location for another vacation club resort. I'm anxious to see its development.

I took some photos this morning

Doc, have I told you lately how much I appreciate you being our "eyes and ears" for what's happening at "home". :)

Debbie -- Were the fireworks the you heard on NYE or other nights during your stay. I know that on NYE, the whole place sounds like it is under aerial attack.

Dean -- Moving the preview center to Celebration sounds like an odd idea. It won't allow for walk-ins and I would think people would be less likely to spend time outside of WDW to look at units. I wonder if they'll blindfold the folks so they won't see the new timeshare going up in Celebration itself. ;)

PamOKW,

The fireworks we heard were not on NYE. We were at OKW from December 9 to December 27, but I don't recall specifically which nights I heard them.

It did seem odd to me that they were so loud. I don't recall ever hearing them quite like that on previous trips. Maybe it was the cloud cover (ha! like I know anything about cloud cover).

Anyway, I just thought it was something to consider.

Debbie

here are some pics I took last thursday (1/9/2003) from DTD of the construction site. Not much really to see yet.

Mike

NOTE the third one I think they did something, guess they didn't want me taking pics of the site. :teeth: Actually I think I just got a reflection off some equipment moving. :teeth:

The DVC business offices have been in Celebration for a few years. Maybe the CM was getting that confused with the preview center.

It did sound a little strange to me but on further thought, I don't know. Most tours do not happen by people just stopping by the preview center. It does make sense that they would move it but I though maybe they'd put it over at DD or at SS or even EP if that actually happens.

First the "Oval", then the "Triangle" and now.... it's the "Blob"!!! Oh my- what other creatures are in store for me when I join the DVC???? :earseek:
Lved seeing the pre satge construction photos os Saratoga Springs- how clever of you all to take them!
