Santa's Bootprint...I need ideas

My DH always left a piece of white fuzz behind and said it was from Santa's beard. The kids totally bought it! :thumbsup2

Santa leaves orange peel in our house. The kids leave Santa an orange. He likes to eat it as he is checking to make sure they are sleeping. But, he drops the peel in the hallway and their rooms.

They are older now, but still want to leave out an orange for santa.

My dad did this when I was little for me. He still won't tell me how he did it. I guess he wants to keep the magic alive! I love that he still won't tell me...makes me feel little and magical all over again.

I would go for something sooty looking or glitter.

Never know there may not be any snow on Christmas!

Debbie

Ummm... I think you may be underestimating the intelligence of your child; even a six year old knows that snow is wet and it melts once inside the house. ;)

We've never done the footprint, but we always leave a trail of reindeer poop and snow piles from the kids' rooms into the living room right up to their stockings. We use raisins and chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. I like the idea of a boot print, I may have to steal that!

We actually have a fireplace this year, and I want to have fun with it. My daughter is 6, so this won't last much longer.

I want to make some bootprints from Santa...anyone have any ideas???

Something that will last, but will be easy to clean and pass for snow.

I thought, baby powder, but that has a smell to it, I think she will be able to tell the difference.

Or any thoughts, something Santa can leave behind?

What have you done with your children??

Last year, one of Santa's bells fell of his sleigh. She is still talking about it. :santa:

Try flour. My dad used to put on his workboots, dust them with flour, and walk around by the fireplace (I was informed of that when I was around 12). It doesn't have a smell.

On the rare occasion it snows for Christmas Eve, we have left reindeer hoof prints in the snow across the front lawn with a wood from DH's golf clubs.

ISN"T THAT A CUTE IDEA!! Who would have thunk it...golf glubs for reindeer footprints..what a good idea!:goodvibes

I didn't read the post so forgive me if this is already posted. Santa left his hat once by getting it stuck in the fireplace. The girls thought it was cool to have Santa's hat, but worried about Santa having his hat. We gave Santa a call and he told us we could keep the hat for being so good.

We used to leave pieces of chewed up apple out on the porch..along with reindeer foot prints. :santa: One year, I forgot to clean it up before company came and had my parents asking me what the heck was all over my porch!
My husband did a good job..chewing and then spiting it out!:rotfl2: It was realistic that's for sure! Messy reindeer!

We made reindeer tracks in the snow (once when we actually HAD snow) and my DD talked about it for YEARS after!!

I only wonder if the kids would "figure out" that the snow you're trying to leave INSIDE is supposed to be melted?? Why would the snow be indoors? Maybe a little puddle of "melted snow" - a few drips of water on the bricks or tiles would work??

So, my husband had an idea, spun off the ideas all of you have, our fireplace like the bricks around it are painted a light color. So we are going to use a glove and get some soot out of the fireplace and make a handprint on the fireplace like Santa would if he were climbing back in.

You guys are awsome.
Your right, snow would melt inside, and we live in South Jersey, so we may not see snow anyway! LOL

After the Santa Clause Movie came out we left a sucker wrapper and empty stick next to the cookie plate....Bernard, Santa's head elf is shown in the movie with a sucker. We've also decorated the yard with a pile of reindeer poo (coco puffs) near where we left a bit of hay and carrots. With the carrots I did the same as an above poster....chewed a chunk of carrot and sort of spit bits out around that spot. And Santa himself always left a letter for the boys with a special font I downloaded Christmas Eve and deleted as soon as I had typed the letter. Different fonts included candy canes, Christmas trees, and snowflakes. For footprints we left a couple of puddles on water with glitter in it on the kitchen floor by the counter that held the cookie plate.
