Santa Barbara Beach Day

We are spending an entire day in Santa Barbara before we go to Disneyland because DH and kids want a relaxing beach day. We won't do a lot of site seeing, but do need ideas for meals. We will likely be spending the day on East Beach or West Beach because our hotel is just across from West Beach. DH would like to rent a surf board and give it a go. I'll be looking to rent an umbrella or cabana. Any tips for me?

There is a nice little restaurant right on the beach. I've had breakfast there a couple of times, and there is a lot of beach to walk along or sunbathe. I don't have any info on rentals, though.
