Has anyone ever used their points to stay at Tortuga or Hurricane house on Sanibel? If so was it worth it and how many points did you need? thanks. Beth

We stayed at the Tortuga Beach Club on Sanibel a couple of years ago. We did not use our points as we knew someone who was not using their week and rented directly from them.

However, just wanted to tell you it is a great resort. Nicely planned and adequate space in the condos. Kitchens well outfitted. Nicely decorated. It is right on the beach with views from most of the units. They have programs for recreation during the day and crafts, etc. Friendly people around the pool, etc. In fact, before we bought DVC we seriously considered buying a couple of weeks there, but are happy now that we did not because Disney is really what we wanted (just didn't realize it).

Upkeep, grounds, convenience, programs compare favorably with a DVC resort.

thanks for the reply, we have friends that own there and to rent an unused week is $1400--wondered how many ponts it would take-that is more than I wanted to spend. Beth

You should be looking at points for a 2 BR unit at OKW. I'd guess for winter you're looking at 296 and 218 for summer. Either way, makes the $1400 seem reasonable comparatively. While I haven't seen any of the resorts, they are basically all 2 BR and most are very highly rated that are on the DVC list. You may be able to rent directly from an owner for a cheaper price depending on the time of year in question. I see Sept weeks for rent for $800 and $1000 for 2 BR on Captiva.

We own at Hurricane House and Plantation Beach Club on Captiva. HH is my favorite. It is set up a lot like Tortuga (they are sister resorts) but it does not have activities like Tortuga does but it is on a much better beach than Tortuga. It is easier to rent or trade into the resorts at South Seas on Captiva because there are so many more units. Plantation Beach Club is my favorite at South Seas because of the location but it is not as luxurious as some of the other resorts there. It is a free laundry for each bldg. but no w/d in the rooms.

I also own DVC at BWV and BCV but I can't compare DW with San/Cap. That's like comparing apples and oranges. I love them both. I would not trade my DVC for Sanibel but I would gladly pay $1400 rent for a winter week.
