I know there is a new alcohol policy on DCL. Does anyone know if I can bring sangria As a carry on? On the label it only says red wine and no liquor .

If it's wine then it's wine. What kind of wine doesn't matter.

I believe it's going to be hit or miss. If you get a security person who knows what Sangria is and is willing to use some reasonable discretion, you probably will get it on board. If you get a security person who reads the letter of the policy and applies nothing more, then it might not make it on board. If you're willing to risk that it won't make it and can live with picking it up on your way off of the ship, go for it. If the possibility that it won't make it on board is a big problem, don't chance it.

Like a PP said, it might be hit or miss with security. Sangria contains brandy (you probably know that since you asked specifically about it) but not enough to make it a liquor. If I was the security guy I would consider it to be a wine and you would get it on board.

I would also say it would probably have to be actually packaged? I just don't see you getting on with your homemade sangria because who knows what it includes. For example I know you can buy already bottled sangria (Senor Sangria and Yago are popular around here) and I'm fairly certain they don't already contain brandy since the official sites for both brands offer recipes that have you add brandy to the sangria. I also know many wineries (especially if you have local wineries) make a sangria and while it doesn't give you the brandy kick it still gives you the sangria taste so you could probably argue it.

We brought on one 4 pack of sangria wine coolers. It was 4 small bottles in a cardboard holder. I don't know if a larger bottle would work.

It's a fruity wine, but you might get a security guard who doesn't know what it is. I like Sangria myself, but am going to opt for a rose' just in case.

We brought 4 bottles of wine on (2 adults) and they didn't check labels just went through scanner and counted 4. If you get an overly cautious SG then they may ask, but as you mentioned the label says wine. You won't know till you get there, but IMHO they won't think it is anything more than wine. Just be sure it is limited to 750ml per bottle. Some of the pre-made sangria around us are larger bottles.

Just before the alcohol policy change I did. When I was in Spain in 2015 for my WBTA Cruise I purchased and brought two boxes of sangria with me in my carry-on. They didn't even look in the bag that I had the boxes of sangria to see what type of liquid or alcohol I was bringing.

Since you were sailing before the policy change, they had no reason to look or ask.

But I will say, when I boarded our cruise in March I had one bottle of wine in my carryon. After it when through the xray machine, the security guard asked if I had wine in my bag. I told him, yes, I had one bottle. And that was the end of it. They didn't open my luggage to inspect the label. I've read here of the same thing happening many times. So likely the OP will be able to bring on the sangria without being questioned, and even if she is questioned she says the label reads "red wine." But I would double check the size of the bottles and make sure they are no larger than 750ml.
