Sand and Sun ~ Trip Number Ten Was Lots of Fun! Clearwater Beach & YC, August 2013

I think I missed a whole trip report and most of this one! I guess that's what happens when you don't have a Disney trip planned for so long.

Great report so far, especially love the chocolate carmel pineapple. Disney always has the best pineapple anyway!

Hoping to get back next August if sports schedules allow! Can I send you a pm about your agency specials? Not sure if we can make it work or not, high school sports are not very vacation friendly!

:teeth:
I don't know if you could stand to be around two of me's, bc that's essentially who Ru is, only with brown hair and 8 years younger. :lmao: It's quite entertaining to see us in action.

On second thought, since we get along so great, yeah…. it'd be great.:cool1:

Trouble would find us I'm sure!!!:dance3:

Sounds like a good time to me!!! :cool1::crazy2::rotfl: I think the 3 of us should be let loose in Epcot one day soon. ::yes::

I'm glad you told DS he had to buy his girlfriend a present himself. Good practice for when he gets wifed up!;)

IDK why he gets so weird about taking stuff to the register to buy it.:confused3 It's not like he's shy!!! At all!!!! :faint:

:lmao: Men!! :lmao: Good for you for making him do it himself! :thumbsup2

Absolutely!! :thumbsup2

Welcome!! :cool1:

Glad you are enjoying the TR so far! :goodvibes Still lots more to come. :)

You sure can! :thumbsup2 We have some awesome August specials!! I know what you mean about the sports though. Looking ahead, DS12 will be on the Middle School soccer team next year and someone recently told me that they start in August for fall soccer and they aren't allowed to miss any practices. :faint: I really need to look into that considering that I already booked us for late August!! :scared1:

Once we got back to the YC we were all wiped out from the intense heat, so we just took a nice long break. I spent some time on the balcony watching the rain.

We started talking about what we would do the next day. The plan was to go to Typhoon Lagoon. (We had free tickets to do either TL, BB, or Disney Quest) But, after so many days of being wet, I just wasn't up for it. Between the beach and all the rain, spending the day at TL just wasn't appealing to me at all. So I brought it up to the rest of the family. DH and DS14 totally agreed and had about zero interest in going to TL. DS12 on the other hand, still kind of wanted to go. Which is surprising, he's not all that brave in the water and doesn't love fast waterslides. Even though we didn't want to go, we told him we would go anyway. After all, it was planned and he had been looking forward to it. Pretty soon DS12 tells me it's okay if we skip TL, but he really, really wants to get to the Lego store. We had planned to go to DTD the following evening. But since he was compromising about TL, I told him to get ready and we would go right now!! He was so excited!! :hyper:

Continued in next post....

Continued...

So we all got ready and headed out to the bus stop. It was around 4:00. My only condition was that we got back to the YC by 8:00, so we could get over to Epcot for IllumiNations!

It was about 4:40 when we got to DTD. Everybody was a little hungry, but not really hungry. We talked about it and decided to just grab a small dinner at WPE, then do our shopping, and then catch the bus at the West Side stop (so we didn't have to be walking back & forth) to save time so we would get back to the YC with plenty of time to get a good spot for IllumiNations. You never know how long that DTD bus ride back to the YC is going to take, with 5 resorts sharing one bus. :sad2:

DH and I shared a chicken aioli sandwich and fries. And the kids shared a pizza and DS12 got a frozen yogurt topped with cookies.

Up Next: More DTD!

I've been reading along but haven't posted. Thank my bossman for keeping me busy. Well, wait, don't say anything 'cause he'll know that I'm dising on company time. ;)

I probably missed your comment somewhere....was the chocolate dipped pineapple good? I've read mixed reviews.

Ugh...heat AND rain? Two things that you want to avoid at Disney. Thank goodness you had that lovely view from your balcony to watch the rain from. Otherwise, the rain would have been a real downer.

Man could I go for some of the goodies from Wolfgang Puck right now. Your meals looked a lot more delicious than the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I had for lunch.

Well I really hate that you missed TL but I totally understand why you didn't want to go. I've felt that way before too. After I've been in the water a lot for days, I just want to be dry too. Maybe you can make it next summer since you'll have those free tickets again. :goodvibes

I'm drooling over those food pics from WPE! I LOVE WPE!!! Yum! They have the BEST pizza! Actually, we've never gotten anything there that wasn't top notch good! They did get rid of my favorite item though... the bbq chicken quesadilla! I was so bummed this year when it wasn't on the menu! Why do restaurants do that to people? Just when you find something you absolutely love, they get rid of it. :sad2:

Cool pictures that you took from your balcony. I've never known exactly where the international gateway was located in the resort area, but now I know! ;)

I would be right there with you about not wanting to be wet anymore!

Funny that DS14 had to buy the girlfriend gifts and wanted you to handle the transaction! Good for you not doing it!!

WPE has always been good for us too!

So with all that foreshadowing, now I'm worried that the bus gives you trouble getting back to Epcot on time for Illuminations! Ruh Roh!!

I probably would have cancelled TL too. We did BB once but haven't made it to TL yet....someday. So I am looking forward to hearing about it.
DTD sounded like the perfect thing to do. We also LOVE WPE the food is very good there especially for a CS!!

I love reading along, so thanks for doing this TR. We had a TL/DQ day last May & for me it was the most exhausting. I'm hoping the boys don't notice that I'm not planning it this time around, although when discussing it this morning the 1st thing they all said was "how about Blizzard Beach?!?" So I probably won't escape it.
Sounds like August is a tough month to go w/that heat combined w/rain but I'm leaning Twds the same time for 2014. It's just to challenging to take them out of school at this point.
Btw we love WPE as well, went there for a late dinner after DQ.

Hey Lisa

Stupid work, keeping us from the DIS. :rotfl:

YES the pineapple was delicious!!! ::yes::

Yep, it was rough with the heat & rain. It was nice watching the rain from the balcony though. :cloud9:

WPE is awesome!!

I know, I was really looking forward to TL before the trip. Especially after all your beautiful pics! :lovestruc Oh well, maybe next summer! :upsidedow

We love WPE too. We always like what we get there. I hate when places take good stuff off the menu!! Like when Sci-Fi took the steak salad off their menu. :sad2:

It is so convenient to get to Epcot through the International Gateway!!

I was so tired of being wet!! :faint:

I know, he was all prepared to pay for it but for some reason wanted me to do the transaction. :confused3 Guess he felt weird buying a necklace. :rotfl:

No, actually we made decent time getting back to the YC. I was just worried because of previous experiences!! :scared:

Yeah, hopefully with taking the beach out of the picture next summer we will all be more up for TL!! :wizard:

I love DTD in the evening. And WPE is good anytime!!:thumbsup2

Thanks!! :goodvibes Glad you are enjoying the TR.

A day at a water park does sound exhausting. :faint: It sounded especially exhausting after so many days in the heat and rain last August!!

This trip was rough with the heat & rain. We had gone in late August in 2011 and it was hot and it rained, but it was nothing like what we experienced this time. It was brutal. But like you said, what are you going to do when it becomes too hard to take them out of school for very long as they get older... Plus with such great deals at the end of August, it is hard to pass up!!

Well even though you were tired and the rain wasn't fun, I bet it was relaxing watching it from the balcony. That sounds nice.:cloud9:

Your DS12 is so sweet, he was so nice about not doing the water park. I hope he got some great Legos for being a good boy!:lovestruc

Still have never eaten at WPE--- really need to try it. It looked so good!

And this is totes Off topic--
:offtopic:

But I am sitting here craving Daffin's!!!!!!!!! Think I must peruse the ole website and see if I should put in an order for Christmas. For myself of course. 'Cause that's how I roll….

:rolleyes1

Would a 5 lb Milk chocolate and nut assortment be too much, do you think??

:lmao:

Well, if we were meeting up in WDW this year (or next!!) you know I would bring you a big fat box of them!!!!

::yes::

Too bad it looks like 2014 is going to be a bust as far as a WDW meet up for us. :sad2:

:guilty:
That's sad.

A year ago we were at the GF. :(

Must be why I'm needing Daffin's! I know the box said it was to all of us but I snarled every time anyone even walked past it.:lmao:
I couldn't help it--- kids can't appreciate good chocolate!!!

I know, it was this weekend last year that we all arrived at the GF!!!!! Wishing we were there now... :cloud9:

I think you need to get some Daffin's right away. ::yes::

Um, at the risk of sounding completely ignorant (even though I am):

What is Daffin's?

and where do I get some? (it must be good!)

That chocolate sounds great!

Your DS is sweet to give up TL in favor of Legos :)

We always make plans to go to a waterpark bit never seem to get round to it lol

We ate at WPE first the first time last trip and it was awesome. I had the rotisserie chicken but want to try the pizza next time.
