Sanaa what to eat

Bread service is great but to me, the naan itself is pretty generic and comparable to what can be had at our local grocery store (Wegmans). Instead, the fun for me is in trying all the accompaniments, from a delicious chutney to a sweet topping, to some pepper spread that is just short of making my mouth unbearably hot. I don’t think any are lights out amazing, but again, the joy factor is in the diversity.

While there earlier this year, my wife and I got it a couple of times; once as an appetizer to split at dinner, and once as lunch take-out to enjoy by the pool. For us, it was A LOT of food to split as an appetizer and we took most of it to the room for the next day. The lunch take-out was plenty for 2 to enjoy by the pool and not be overly full. Maybe we supplemented with something small from the pool bar, but it wouldn’t be necessary.

As for flavor, I really enjoyed the potjie inspired combos. We tried a couple and both were good. Adding an African Starr mojito 👍

At lunch I also love the tandoori chicken. I also like the Zanzabari vegetable curry, which is listed as a plant-based option at dinner, but not noted as such at lunch. I assume that was just an over sight, not to note it as plant based at lunch, but since I'm not vegan, just like it, I've never asked at lunch whether or not it's vegan. I also really liked the salad sampler, which was listed as an appetizer, but I couldn't find it listed today, so perhaps it's been discontinued. That is light enough that I used to get dessert with that. Last time I had the bread service, the majority of the dips were too spicy for me, but then I'm not a spicy food lover.

I've only been once and had the butter chicken. It was very good, but the bread service stole the show. Be warned, the spreads for the naan vary from mildly sweet to super spicy. Your server will explain what they all are, but don't forget! 🤣

They do order them from mildest to spiciest. When you promptly forget which they are, at least you have an idea how much spice you're going for.
The sauces mix in great with the rice from the entrees, too.

We always order the bread service, my husband and I will split the Potjie inspired, and then order a candy bar, which is no longer on the menu, but has still been available to order. I find ordering any more food than that is way too much and we can't eat it all. My two kids were also a fan of both the bread service and the butter chicken.

Ditto! Bread service and butter chicken!

Less than 10 years ago we had our first meal at Sanaa. The bread service was $10.50 lol! Came with your choice of 5 breads and 3 spreads, or for $12.99 you could have all 9 spreads included. That price was $9.99/$12.49 a few months prior. It was a downright fantastic deal back those days. In 2018 it had jumped to $18 and removed the lower priced option.

Today it’s still a decent price at $22 considering locally restaurants here charge $4 to $6 for each piece non-plain breads and that’s without accompaniment. It just had a bigger wow factor back in the cheaper days when Sanaa wasn’t so popular and it was much easier to land a window table.

I sound like an old person 😂 Bring back my BoG QS lunches for well under $20 a head and DDP 1QS credit pre-park open $30 breakfast with bonus $15 mimosa! Sometimes you don’t realize how good you’ve got it until it’s gone. We became fans of Sleepy Hollow waffles… now that’s altered. Same with Satuli Canteen. Major downgrade for the beef. Oh well gotta keep an eye out for the new best thing. <end rant>

I used to love the salad sampler, a small portion of 3 different salads. However, I don't see it on the current menu. Has anyone had it recently or is it indeed gone?

Dd loved the BOG breakfast and requested it for this year- gone. Then I did my homework and decided sleepy hollow seemed like a good deal, then I read about the recent changes. Why can’t we have nice things?!!!

What is the candy bar?
Sounds interesting!
My sister and I plan on doing exactly what you described for our visit next month.
