San Juan Excursions on your own?

When we vacationed in PR a few years ago, we stayed at Isla Verde and used the public beaches--there is a path thru between the hotels/condos. Seems like someone rented chairs and there were places to eat.

We rode the bus in and out of Old San Juan from in front of our hotel. We loved exploring down there--there are churches, museums, shops, restaurants, the fort and castle, parks, you can take the ferry across to tour the rum factory, walk around and enjoy the ocean and scenery, etc. You can tour the fort, then walk along the ocean as you go to the castle. Seems to me that there was even a trolley???

The cabs have fixed prices for trips--it should be posted right on the cab.

The rainforest was neat and the beach that is close by there is really great. However, it is a ways out and if you are not into hiking . . .

Have fun!!!!!!!!!:earsgirl:

I really appreciate all of the info I'm reading on this thread! Thank you all (especially drarill)! :sunny:

drarill,
Where is the closest Post Office? I would like to send home postcards postmarked in Puerto Rico.

DonettaR;
The phone number for the Old San Juan Postal Office is 787-7231281. Everything in Old San Juan is walking distance but keep in mind that we use the US Postal Service so you just need to bring some stamps from home, buy the post card and leave it in any US Postal Service Mail box, and those you can find everywhere.
There is also a Postal Station in the Airport (787-7911022).
Hope this helps
Lydia

I was in Puerto Rico last year (summer) for business. We were looking to have a meeting in Puerto Rico, so I went to three different hotels (Hilton, Marriott, and Wyndham) to see their facilities. I've got the pictures on my computer at home, so I'll try to post them tomorrow.

By far my favorite was the Caribe Hilton. It is in a very pleasant setting. They have a "private" beach, and wonderful pools with plenty of chairs.

Puerto Rico is a beautiful place. You'll enjoy it.

If you are looking for a good hotel for a meeting. You should try the new all inclusive hotel in the Rio Grande area (close to El Yunque). its the Paradisus hotel and as I said before is all inclusive (drinks, food, everything). Really nice.
