When we vacationed in PR a few years ago, we stayed at Isla Verde and used the public beaches--there is a path thru between the hotels/condos. Seems like someone rented chairs and there were places to eat.
We rode the bus in and out of Old San Juan from in front of our hotel. We loved exploring down there--there are churches, museums, shops, restaurants, the fort and castle, parks, you can take the ferry across to tour the rum factory, walk around and enjoy the ocean and scenery, etc. You can tour the fort, then walk along the ocean as you go to the castle. Seems to me that there was even a trolley???
The cabs have fixed prices for trips--it should be posted right on the cab.
The rainforest was neat and the beach that is close by there is really great. However, it is a ways out and if you are not into hiking . . .
Have fun!!!!!!!!!
