I will need to spend two nights in SF before going on to Los Angeles in February. I would, of course, like to use points rather than money. (I have more points than money. Maybe the two are related?)

Has anyone stayed at the concierge collection's offerings?

Any other suggestions?

If it's the St Francis, I stayed there for cash. It's one of the greatest hotels in the country.

If it's the St Francis, which I didn't see in the Getaway Collection, I would say you are better off to use one of the popular bidding-for-travel sites. It looks like you could get it for $100/night and the location is ideal, we stayed right up the street. The hotel that I do see in the collection is the Fairmont, we've been there but never stayed(don't miss the Tonga Room if you enjoy a nice cocktail to end the day) -it is an absolutely beautiful hotel perched on one of the highest points in the city. If it is the Fairmont, I would use points because they get $350/night and I don't believe there are any discounts(?) especially for the 35 points they charge. Fairmont is also in a great section and central to the trolley lines. Have a blast..and beware of climbing large inclines!

We spent 3 nights at the Fairmont on points (I also have more points than $) and were very pleased. It's kind of a staid atmosphere, but the room was beautiful with a great city and bay view. The last night, we were tired of eating out and had to pack up, so we ordered the Asian room service. Generally, I'm not real fond of room service food, but it was really good. Wonderful location - right at the crossroads of the cable cars.

We stayed at the White Swan Inn for 3 nights in June of 2004. It was wonderful. It was centrally located and the accomodations were very nice.
