We will be in San Diego in July.

I think that there is Sea World, the zoo, Wild Animal Park, and legoland right in San Diego.

What about Knotts Berry Farm or Six Flags, are these close to or in San Diego? If not how long of a drive are we talking? Is there anything else that a tourist could do..

KBF is near DLR and MM is about an hour north of them. So they are not real close.

You covered the major parks in SD.

Balboa park(which is right next to the zoo) has a ton of museums that the whole family will love!

Of course the beach!!

There are tons of things for tourists in San Diego. It really depends on what your family is interested in.

There is Knott's Soak City water park in Chula Vista, just south of San Diego, that might be a good option for July. Also Belmont Park at Mission Bay, right near SeaWorld.

Where will you be staying?

I think it really depends on the ages and interests of your group. I have found that almost everyone loves SeaWorld and Knott's Berry Farm. Knott's is up in Orange County, about 1.5 hours with no traffic. Sea World is downtown.
The Animal Park and Zoo are obviously, filled with animals, but the Zoo is better IMO and is downtown SD. Wild Animal Park is north and east of San Diego, more Escondido-ish. Legoland is in Carlsbad, about 35 minutes north of the city of SD. For younger kids and not a lot for adults/teens unless they are REALLY into legos.
