San Antonio Sea World and New Braunfels, TX ???

We go to San Antonio once a year usually in August. We love love love the Hyatt Hill Country and La Cantera. However for the past 3 years we have stayed at the Hyatt's sister property Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch! It is wonderful and we like it better than the other 2 we have stayed at, although they are all great. The Hyatts have lazy rivers and the Wild Oak Ranch has 2 water slides. We just love it there! It is very close to Sea World! It is a timeshare at the Wild Oak Ranch so the rooms are huge! However you don't need to be a member of the timeshare to stay there! http://wildoakranch.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels-wildoakranch/index.jsp?null

WOW!!! Thank you everyone so much for all your wonderful recommendations!!:thumbsup2

Great info! So what would be the must do's for girls ages 6 and 8? I want to enjoy the resort but my husband wants to do tons of stuff. I really don't want to be constantly driving around when I could be relaxing at the pool! We definitely want to do seaworld 1 or 2 days. I guess we need to see the Alamo just cause. Is the zoo that great? Or would Brackenridge park be good enough?

I would still look into the river tubing. I have heard that they've cracked down on the drinking and have banned some containers on the Guadalupe but we haven't been in the area in ages so I could be offbase. Younger kids might be a good idea though...

We were personally only OK with the zoo. It's nice enough but not the best. The kids might be happy with it of course.

When we moved to San Antonio 3 years ago we stayed for 3 weeks at the Staybridge Suites that is across from Rudy's and right down the road from SeaWorld. It is really nice and they offer hot breakfast every morning and free drinks and a light dinner Tuesday-Thursday evening. They have a pool, gym, laundry facilities. SeaWorlds water park just opened for the season and is very nice. It is open during the SA spring break week and weekends the rest of March. SeaWorld is open every day in March and your kids will love it. We live about 10 minutes away and spend a lot of time there! I suggest two days if you plan to do the water park, too. We haven't taken our kids river tubing yet, but it might be too cold still. Definitely go to the Riverwalk. I second Paesano's but also really like Boudro's. the Alamo is right by the Riverwalk. Your kids might also enjoy the Tower of Americas which is a short walk from the Alamo. There are also many horse drawn carriages in that area that are fun. Have a fun trip!

Thanks so much!

We don't plan to do the Sea World water park, just regular Sea World. Is 1 day enough? We will be going during the week, not a weekend and it will not be TX spring break.

How is Sea World in the rain? Is it mostly an outdoor or indoor park? We have never been to any Sea World so we have no idea what to expect.

I think one day is enough. They list their show times on the website so you can go in with a plan. During the week it won't be busy. There is a really nice splash area in the Bay of Play area that is part of the SeaWorld park. Bring swimsuits if you think your kids will want to play there... They'll get really wet! Swimsuits are handy for the water rides, too, and for the splash zones at the shows. If you sit in the splash zone at Shamu, expect to be soaked! It isn't likely that it will rain but if it does the park will stay open. The shows are mostly covered but there is a lot of walking in between stadiums and buildings.

Thanks! I was looking at the website, I thought there were more rides. Looks like just the Shamu ride and the rapid ride where you get soaked are the only 2 good for 6 and 8 year olds. Then there are 2 big rides. That's all?

What are the best shows? I wish there was a sea world San Antonio board someplace! Lol

anyone?

Love San Antonio and visit often. One day is plenty for us at Sea World. The water area looked fun so check the weather. This is Texas it might be warm enough to play in it. You just never know.

Love the River walk but prefer to stay around the La Cantera/ Fiesta Texas area if we have kids with us.

Definitely head to the Riverwalk, take the water taxi tour and go to the Alamo.

One food fave I haven't seen mentioned- Chuys for delicious TexMex.

We have enjoyed all the shows we've seen there, but it's been about 3 years since we've been and the only one that is the same is the Cannery Row Caper. They have changed the format of the Shamu show; now the trainers can no longer go in the water with the orcas (due to the drowning death of a trainer a couple of years ago at Seaworld Orlando). Even so, you'll want to be sure and see the Shamu show. We were really impressed with the aerial acrobats and divers who perform with the beluga whales. The show used to be called Viva and now it's Azul. The Shamu and Azul shows have more of the "wow" factor, while Cannery Row is more of a "aww" cute sea lion show with some funny moments. Hope this helps.

That helps very much, thank you :) There is not much info about SW San Antonio. I notice every article/review has a disclaimer at the bottom that says the person who wrote the article was given complimentary tickets for their family! It's no Disney World!
