Pictures are too kind to San Angel. You get the impression of a cozy, dark, quiet romantic spot. Instead, it's loud, often overrun with kids, with tables impossibly close together. Service is rushed.
"Mediocre" best describes San Angel.
Couldn't disagree more based on our experience there a few days ago. The tables are no closer together than most other TS locations - including the All Mighty and Infallible Le Cellier - and it would be no more overrun with kids than any other place either... Our service was fantastic (Eduardo was great) and not rushed at all. Perhaps you just hit a bad time of year (which would affect all of the locations, not just SAI.)
It's not worth it. San Angel was one of my favorites in the past but the past 2 years the service and food has gone down hill. Food used to be delicious, meats were so tender they would fall apart in your mouth, and you could really taste the wonderful spices. Last 2 times nothing was really good, mediocre at best. Steaks were tough and everything was a little bland. I ended up drowning most of my food in salsa so it would have flavor. Service used to be great and attentative but last time we had to practically beg for more drinks (I hear this problem alot anymore since DDP got popular, though, espically when tips were included). I think one reason I am so down on thier food and service anymore is i KNOW they can and have done better, much much better. San Angel is a gorgeous resturaunt and I would recommend it for drinks, but that's it.
