We really want to go to both of these, but only have 1 spot left on our ADR list. We have never been to either and I know they are probably polar opposites of each other, but I don't know which to do. How are they in terms of food and atmosphere? There will be 5 of us - me, DH, DD(3), DS(5) and my Dad. I love the 50's so I thought PT would be fun, but hubby also loves Mexican food. So.... where would you go if you had to make the decision?

I would probably go to San Angel. The food is good in both. Prime Time is like a step back in time. But thats more appreciated by someone who actually lived during that time, your kids have not. At San Angel, your kids can see the volcano erupt and people going by in small boats in the waterway within the restaraunt, then take a ride in one of the boats. I think the kids would enjoy San Angel better because of the atmosphere. But your good either way.

I suggest 50's PT. We have 2 younger boys, and they think it's so much fun, because the waiter picks on the grown ups to eat their veggies, keep elbows off the table.... I think it's so much more fun than San Angel. The food is very good, too. I like the athmoshpere of San Angel Inn, but the food is so so, and it's not as entertaining as 50's PT IMHO.

I think they would enjoy 50's more cause the servers would pick on the adults a lot more than the kids. However, the servers have been hit and miss. There are many who have not had a server who played the part, which resulted in a disappointing experience. Food here is ok.
San Angel does have a really nice atmosphere....but would they enjoy the food? it all depends on what your kids are into. Why not let them decide? Show them pics of the restaurant AND the food at both places.

Since you have 2 younger kids, I would also choose 50's Prime Time Cafe.

I would choose San Angel. We went to 50s two years ago and it was the worst experience. The food was awful. I'd never return.

Hi Ti! I vote San Angel just b/c I am going this time finally! I always wanted to try it for the atmosphere. I ate @ 50s once & I really thought the food was less than ok. I can eat @ Johnny Rockets anywhere & think the food is better. However I'm a huge fan of the food in WDW. This just did nothing for us. I mean it's cute but IMO Ithink San Angel Inn has something very unique. If u can't pick do both! We are actually paying cash for San Angel Inn b/c we ran out of credits, lol! Just pay cash for the cheaper meal. allears.net< prices

I will join those who voted for 50's. We (2 adults) have eaten there several times and have really enjoyed both the atmosphere and the food. Since I love to people watch, I've noted that most of the families we have been seated near have seemed to really enjoy themselves as well.

We have eaten 3 times at San Angel Inn. Once because we hadn't tried it before, and subsequently because we were in a group who really wanted to eat there. While the atmosphere is undeniably unique, the food underwhelmed us on all 3 occasions. This year we have decided to give La Hacienda a try.

My boys (7&9) had a great time at PTC. The food was exactly as the dining guide said...like a sunday dinner at home. We had the fried chicken and it was finger licking good! The sever really makes the difference no matter where you go IMO.

I would also recommend 50's. It is one of the few restaurants that my kids request to go back to. There were 9 of us last time and every one of us enjoyed our meal.

Wow ! I wouldn't make a "special trip" for either one f them ! Not that they aren't both great restaurants (they are !) but, as you said, they are all but "polar opposites" in both atmosphere and location.
IMHO, either decide on which one you are going to be "near" at the time, and/or, check out their menus and decide if your children are going to eat what they are offering... and go from there....
Just my opinion.... :wizard:

I thought it would be fun 10 years ago, but I just hate being insulted as I eat what i want or what i don't want, especially at the prices we paid. Unfortunately, i didn't have any idea this would occur at the time, we just saw the menu, liked the food, went in......i actually told the waitress off.

I would go San Angel Inn..good food, portions and atmosphere. And if you're looking for the "theme-ing" of Prime without the lip and price, try Tune-In Lounge for a cool snack.

FYI --the San Angel Inn is real mexican food- not tex mex.

I really wanted to eat at Prime Time Cafe but we ate at Hollywood & Vine for the Fantasmic! Pkg. I peeked in Prime Time Cafe (they share a bathroom) and it did not look like what I expected it to look like. I'm not sure what I expected!
