San Angel Inn - Are there other Mexican Restaurants that you can compare the food to?

It's been several years since we've been back to the San Angel Inn. The food had gotten so bad, and the service (never any good) just kept us away from the food that we love the most. I've heard that the food has improved, and was wonding how the food compared to other Mexican Restaurants that you eat at at home, or in other places.

I was disappointed in the San Angel Inn this year. I thought it was no better than On the Border or Q'Doba (which I do really enjoy) but it was more expensive. I would try elsewhere in EPCOT for great food.

On the Border? Unfortunately, that's all I need to hear to know that not much has changed. Thanks!

Honestly, it is not fantastic. It's just mexican food. Nothing really spectacular about it. It's good, tasty, expensive (of course).

For those who have authentic mexcican food back home, or make it themselves, this will not blow your hair back. It's pretty standard stuff.

I like the atmosphere in there, it's a nice place. I don't go there expecting the best meal of my life either.

We live in Texas, and have some great Mexican food all around us. We learned a long time ago, not to try Mexican Food on vacations. We are always so disappointed.

I've honestly thought about trying San Angel several times, but always been reluctant.

We live about 3 hours from the Metroplex and just love the diverse Mexican Foods that are available there. We typically love the mom & pop dives, but we also enjoy the chains as well: Uncle Julio's, Chuy’s, Mi Casa, Taco Diner, etc. You would very much be disappointed in San Angel Inn. The atmosphere is great, but that's it.

We love the smaller, more authentic places rather than the Tex-Mex chains. One place I can think of that San Angel Inn is comparable to is Don Pablo's. It's edible, not bad, but certainly not someplace I would go out of my way to get to.

We were dissapointed in the food in 08 but Ive been reading more positive reviews last few months..

I just love the ambiance here but DH wont go back because of the food and the service we got that night was horrible, the hostess actually got nasty with my DH after we had a two hour wait past our ADR time in Sept on our HONEYMOON..

We have eaten at On the Border many times at home and liked it.
This past August the kids and I really wanted to eat at San Angel but DH didn't want to - we had a less than great meal there a few years ago. BUT we managed to drag him back with the promise of a yummy drink from the *ditch* :).
I can happily report that we all LOVED it. In fact it may have been DH's favorite meal of the trip. So much so he actually took the time to go over to the hostess and let her know how much we all enjoyed the food and the service. The food was absolutely MUCH better that On the Border. I had the Rib Eye Tacos and they were fantastic. The service was excellent and of course the atmosphere is wonderful. We booked it at 180 days out for our "first night at Epcot" meal. 4 days from now we will be having dinner there!

Same here, except I live about 30 minutes from Dallas. Our local town has the regular fast food junk food joints like Taco Bell and Taco Shack, the better TexMex restaurants, and several locally owned mom and pop places that serve the foods from the different regions of Mexico. San Angel Inn is nothing like any of them.:rotfl: Yuck!! I guess I'm a slow learner, but every time I hear that San Angel Inn has improved, it seems I'll give it another try. The last time I ate there (less than a year ago) my black beans and my rice were both cold and the steak was just a small piece of fajita type steak that was full of fat and gristle. My husband's cheese enchilada was also cold and greasy. I did get some duck tacos for an appetizer that were pretty good though.
