San Angel Inn?? Any Good

People who don't like the food come in two categories, those that don't like it because it isn't Tex Mex ... and those that just don't like it.

And those who end up cauterizing their tongue because they mistook a chile relleno for an [font=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]enchilada.

For years so many people have told me not to eat there that it wasn't worth it. Well on my last trip I decided to give it a try anyway and got the filet something and it was GOOD! I definitely want to go back.

What are your thought son San Angel Inn? Is it any good?

We haven't eaten there in a few years, but we didn't particularly care for it. The atmosphere is wonderful, so I would recommend trying it at least once.

We haven't eaten here is several (five?) years but enjoyed it when we went. The biggest complaints seem to be service, the closeness of the tables (it is tight and dark, did bicker mention dark?), and the food. People who don't like the food come in two categories, those that don't like it because it isn't Tex Mex (it isn't, but we did have very similar food in Akumal, Mexico last year - if the food in Akumal was authentic, so was this) and those that just don't like it. Which will happen to anywhere. We found the service unremarkable either direction.

If you are referring to Tex Mex as being traditional Mexican food like tacos, burritos, etc., those foods are definitely just as authentic as the food you had in Akumal. Different regions of Mexico vary in their foods. San Angel focuses on different styles of foods than what many are used to, but that does not make them more authentic than what is more traditionally served at a Mexican restaurant. For example, pinto beans are more common in many parts of Mexico than black beans, but SAI serves black beans (which I detest and consider more of a Cuban dish than a Mexican one).

Of course. I didn't mean to imply Tex Mex isn't Mexican, its just not the be all and end all of Mexican cuisine, and San Angel Inn doesn't serve much Tex Mex (possibly because you can get it all over the U.S.).

Well I'm looking forward to this more than ever now, I have chosen this for mine and DH first night dinner in August, dark and margeherita sounds like a great combination after a day of travelling

DM and I went on our Girls Only trip last May. One day we decided to visit all 4 parks in 1 day (we're oh-so brave!); the criteria being that in each park we had to accomplish 4 attractions/ experiences. My must-do in WS was have a margarita in Mexico, something I hadn't been able to do on a trip before on account of being too young to booze it up in the States..
Anyway, we started by having one of the frozen ones from an outdoor stand- bleurgh! So horrible, I was very disappointed..
But the next day we came back and lunched at San Angel Inn, and had the best margis ever!! The food was fab, the ambience amazing (we had a seat right by the water) and the server couldn't have been sweeter.. We had a really magical meal, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to one and all!!

My DD picked this rest. for our upcoming trip. I'm not so keen on Mexican food, (it doesn't exactly agree with me) .
But I am willing to try it anyway. I can't wait to see the volcano, and try one of those margaritas everyone is talking about.

We LOVE the San Angel Inn!!! It's a MUST-DO for us.

I wanted to eat here on my honeymoon, it just seemed so romantic. We ordered and the food was horrible. The server asked where we were from, we told him Texas. Then the chef came out and apologized. He told us that they had to tone down the food for people from the rest of the country. Then he comped our meal. So the place was romantic, the server and chef were great, the food was not.

It is not especially good nor especially bad for children, as compared to the other table-service restaurants in the parks.

DH and I had wanted to eat there for years and just didn't until December with DS. The ambience is incredible, even with crammed in seating. We just didn't find the food to be great. It was fine, just not as good as we had built up in our minds. The margarita was fabulous!! I would say try it with an open mind -- we may have ruined it by expecting too much.
