How is San Angel for dinner?
We always eat at the same places and I'd like to try someplace new at Epcot this trip. Any feedback would be great!
I tried the search feature but it doesnt work!

I think the atmosphere of the river of time makes up for the food. The food is good, don't get me wrong, and cheap too. It just doesn't seem that authentic.

We simply adored San Angel. The food was pretty good but not tex-mex but more orginal southern mexico mexican. The Margaritas' were some of the best we had in a long time. It is very romantic and striking with the volcano in the distance and stars on the ceiling. The Mexican ride also goes by.

San Angel Inn continues a rich and fascinating tradition...a story of hospitality woven into the tapestry of Mexcio itself. Traced back to 1692, this beautiful hacienda was a tranquil retreat for Spanish aristocracy in Colonial Mexico. After Mexican Independence, it hosted some of the country's most famous figures, from General Santa Ana to Pancho Villa. In 1915 the hacienda became a popular restaurant and, in 1962, it was named the San Angel Inn, one of the finest restaurants in Mexico. Here in the style and spirit of Old Mexico, we welcome you.

Unlike most Mexican restaurants in the United States, you'll not find nachos, "Mexican pizza" or hard-shell tacos at the San Angel Inn in Epcot, because, says manager Richard Debler, they are not authentic Mexican dishes. And Debler was trained in his family's restaurant in Mexico City.

Chocolate may sound like an unorthodox ingredient to use with chicken, but the mole poblano prepared according to a San Angel Inn recipe combines chile ancho, chile passilla, green tomatoes, ground tortillas, coriander seed and 11 other spices with cocoa for a rich sauce in which chicken is simmered until tender. Fresh tortillas are made every day and served with beef, chicken and cheese fillings, as well as fresh salsa verde.

Cuisine - Mexican.

Typical menu items - Burritos, Grilled chicken, Grilled swordfish, Sea Bass, Pork, Carne asada tampiqueña, Specialty salads.

Meals - Lunch, Dinner. 11:00am - park closing.

We really liked our visit to San Angel. We loved the atmosphere, margheritas and mexican beer. We thought the food was tasty.

I hesitated responding to this because I don't like to post messages like this, but here we go...

Allicat, I think you should try this resteraunt if, 1) your looking for a pretty romantic setting, 2) you like true mexican food not this americanized taco bell crap. The food is good, I wouldn't say that it is the best food to be found in Epcot but it is good!!! check the menu out at http://wdwig.com/menu/menu_mex.htm

The other thing I want to add is that I don't think anyone should tell someone Not to try something just because they didn't like it themselves. Who knows maybe they will like it even if you didn't. I have seen many post saying that the San Angel inn is just not authentic and personally I would love to know what your comparing it too. Have you ever truely eaten "authentic" mexican cuisine??? If you have been to Mexico (not the tourist area's) you would find that the food here "closely" resembles authentic mexican food(with few americanized additions, which every resteraunt has in Epcot)... I guess I would just say that to anyone who wants to try something new, check out the menu, if you see anything you might like then GO... there is not a bad resteraunt on Disney property!!!

... Ok sorry, I have gotten my frustrations out, sorry to anyone I offended

We ate lunch at The San Angel Inn and it was very good. Like the other posters said, just don't go expecting nachos and tacos. The atmosphere is awesome and could be very romantic(we had the 2 dd's with us)

We enjoy it.

Remember, the sit down restaurant is the San Angel Inn, the outside counter service restaurant is the San Angel Cantina.

Phanomouse, your post is not offensive at all (at least to me). Even though I don't necessarily share the same opinion of San Angel Inn I think your post is right on the money about what style of Mexican food to expect. We have traveled to Mexico 5 times and yes sometimes it's been tourist areas and I do agree totally that the cuisine at San Angel is authentic Mexican not Tex - Mex. Our family prefers Tex-Mex because we live in an area where there are lots of Tex-Mex restaurants and that is what we're accustomed to. We thought the margaritas were good, the volcano nice but the food wasn't anything we would return for. But that's just our opinion and that's what reviews are about, opinions. 2 groups could have dinner at the same place on the same night and all come out with different opinions.

We met some friends here for a no kids night out. The service was fast, the waiter helpful. The portions are not large, but that's ok we got a great chocolate thing dessert. The food was delivered very quickly, but managed not to be really warm. It was good, just would have been better hot.
This seems to be a problem with Le Cellar as well but the food at the pub in England was nice and hot.

I say try it!!!
We haven't gone yet, but we are definitely planning to on this trip. This restaraunt definitely has a beautiful ambience to it. I have never had bad food at WDW, so I would give it a shot.
When are you going??
If It is after the beginning of March, I'll give you a review when we get back.

This is the only restaurant that DH says is a "must do" on every visit. He lets me pick all the other restaurants and never complains...as long as San Angel is one of them! :D

The food is fresh and prepared nicely. We always tend to get the same 2 or 3 things so I can't speak for the whole menu, but the Combo platter, beef tenderloin and chicken mole are all wonderful. We used the Connections Lunch Vouchers last time and I think we may have just broken even because at lunch there is only one appetizer to chose from other than soup and we are just not soup people. I would have to say that the only thing that is just "ok" on the menu is the dessert. Not bad, but not great either. No big deal though...there are so many other wonderful places in Epcot to get dessert! We love it for the entrees and atmosphere. One word of caution though...if you require a good amount of light when you eat, this may not be the place for you. The restaurant has a great ambiance, but part of that is the very dim lights. This is probably the darkest restaurant I have ever been to, but very pretty. The volcano in the background is awesome!

This is our must do each trip. Absolutely love it. The portions are simply HUGE!!!!!! I always get the Mahi Mahi and a bowl of tortilla soup. A Dos Equis to go along, and I am set!!

We went during our Summer, 2000 trip--it was nice. I thought the service was great, the atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful, and the girls who are sometimes picky(they actually LIKE Taco Bell type food--ugh) really liked their meals. The margaritas...yum. I enclosed my paragraph about it from my trip report.

"We went back to San Angel Inn and there was a short wait for our table. The girls got their passports signed and the native girl there was so kind to Emily as Emily tried out her Spanish that she learned during a short camp earlier this summer. As they were “chatting”, our table became ready. This is such a wonderful place. Our server was a very enthusiastic, smily young man who also encouraged Emily to use her Spanish. He treated the girls like princesses and they returned the favor by showing their best manners. It was a real treat. Russ and I decided to be adventurous and order margaritas. These margaritas are really quite big and really quite delicious!! Our food was great. We all ordered different things and sampled each others’. It tastes very authentic but not terribly spicy and the service was superb. I don’t remember how much the bill was--maybe it was because of the margaritas!! :D I think around $70, but it really was worth it for the nice time we had. HOWEVER, the sun was really, really bright when we got out of there!!! :D :D :D :D There’s a lesson here--if you drink margaritas at noon, be prepared for bright sun and a tiny headache by midafternoon-whew!!"
