I went out today to play around with my new Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens I got yesterday... Now keep in mind, I am no where close to being a good photographer, but I am trying to learn... I have been told the best way to learn is to practice so i went on a 3 hour venture today to do just that... I thought I might share a few photos I took.. These are shot in JPG and are straight from the camera (Nikon D60) without being ran through any program for editing, so be gentle ;)

The flower shots are with the 35mm, but during my outing I came across a very cute squirrel who was very trusting of people... I got down on the ground, switched over to my 55-200 and zoomed in for a few shots.. I coaxed him to about 8 feet away... I liked them a lot so I thought I would add a couple of those in here as well :)

Nice! I really like the first one of that squirrel---funny that he let you get so close, even with 200mm any squirrels I shoot are always in need of some heavy cropping.

Great job! Looks like someone's been doing some reading :thumbsup2.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 looks to be a very nice performer... good bokeh.

Thanks for sharing them!

Thank you... I have been doing a lot of reading, and I am starting to understand a little bit at a time... Maybe in a few years, I will be able to take a good picture :thumbsup2

Nice! can you post your EXIF so we can take a peek?

You will have to help me out.. What is that?

EXIF stands for "Exchangeable Image File Format" and is a record of your shot settings that is stored in metadata and attached to each image. Usually when you upload your images to your pc, those images carry the EXIF information with them for reference.

wenrob just wants you to post your shot settings if you don't mind (shutter speed, ISO, focal length, aperture, etc.).

Ah, looks like you figured it out anyway.

You got it! What Todd listed is probably the most important information but if you don't want to sort it all out, this bit that you pulled above has all of it!

Yes, I'm an EXIF stalker, lol. It helps me figure things out in my head when I see what other people have done. It's just another way to learn. The first little section up to the flash settings is all we need. The rest in just camera mumbo jumbo, lol.
F/8 huh? Did you have your lens fairly close to the flowers then? I am struggling with depth of feild since getting the Sigma 30 f/1.4 so am bugging people about aperture and distance and making myself a pain.

Wen I was going through the same thing when I got the 30 f/1.4. I was really concerned about what the DOF would be on dark rides but you actually have several feet @ 1.4. Here is a calculator to play with to kind of get an idea.

Here is the EXIF infor from the rest of the shots... All of them are very close..

Very nice:thumbsup2
I should have mine on Friday:)

You will love it!!

I was on top of that flower... I would say about 1-1.5 feet away... That lens is supposed to focus at 1 foot out, and I tested that today :thumbsup2 You are not making yourself a pain... I am still trying to figure that out myself, so any help is greatly appreciated.. i have learned a lot from the posts from Todd and GDad... They are amazing photographers with a lot of knowledge..

Ohhh great shots! That looks like a really good lens!

I think you're catching on quite nicely - you have some really good DOF in those shots.

Love the squirrel! :goodvibes

Thanks :cool1: I am really trying to learn this stuff, and there is so much to learn... I can already tell in my own pictures I have improved, but I have a long way to go
