This is what happened to me. They double charge for purchase on separate days. A scam!! We bought ice cream on Mar 17 and were billed Mar. 17th and then on Mar. 18th . We purchased ice cream on Mar, 20th and were billed Mar. 20th and then Mar. 21st. Purchased ice cream Mar. 27 and were billed Mar. 27 and Mar. 28. In effect they double billed me THREE times. Once and I can accept it was a mistake, twice and it must be incompetence. Three time and it must be a SCAM. I reported to the Beach Club manager and she could see it was in error and refunded me for double billing and said they will be looking into it. Be careful with that business. Heads up. Three times, three different days to one person, definitely more than a tech glitch. I wonder how many other people it has happened to and they don't even know it happened. The strange thing about it was when you paid for you ice cream if you used cash or credit card it was done on the screens above the counter. When they did ours(magic bands) they did it below the counter out of our sight and just handed us our bill to sign.

I still think that it’s a glitch because it happened so close together to the same person..if it was widespread, it would be known.

And yes, plenty of guests pay attention to the bill with MBs

My guess is it has to do with when the business and when Disney closes out their purchases for the end of the night.

The first charge went through that day then another was completed the next day like the charges were processed at different times depending on the method. Maybe it's just something up with your MB itself.

I *think* you're insinuating that an employee did something nefarious especially with your comment about "out of sight" but your charge was for the exact same amount just processed twice, most people would understand that to be a glitch not a physical manipulation or an intent to steal funds from you.

I see you're Canadian. You may be more used to charges done in front of you with a device whereas that is not the norm in the U.S.

I agree. This is something that is erroneously triggering the same transaction more than once.

I have been actually scammed twice with the use of a credit card. Both times were at different pizza places, neither were at WDW, and had to do with the employee "editing" the hand-written tip line on the credit card receipt. That is, however, a completely different thing than an erroneous re-charge.

It is especially concerning when they bill twice on different days, that's the big concern. A glitch would have billed on the same day. When they bill it on two different days it becomes harder to find and they know since you are a hotel guest you probably wouldn't see the charges until the day you check out and see a statement of your charges. I would say it's not an employee but the business itself. They are the ones getting paid twice for a single item. Definitely increases the profit margin.

If you're Canadian then you're used to having it all out in the open. What you're describing doesn't surprise someone from the US.

Watch for further refunds as their system catches the issues.

That is pretty common that things can show up later and not actual day..that happens to me.

The glitch is that the system didn’t recognize that the charge went through.

Again, there is no way the system is regularly charging people twice and its going unnoticed.

On my last trip, I noticed that my credit card would get charged (I get notifications from my CC) almost right away. Later that day or the next day, I would get a notification from WDW that the charge was put on my Magic Band. At first I thought I was getting double charged but when my final bill from WDW came through, it was all washed out.

Yes. I was just going to comment on the same thing. These might be pending charges or pre-authorization charges. Those show up on your account, but then go away when the transaction is finalized.

Not strange at all. The reason being that Resort Charging is a totally differnt system than credit card charging for non-Disney owned businesses. For instance, say I have an independent shop at Disney springs, and I accept VISA/MC. That is one chrging system, usually set up through your bank...and maybe even their own systen HQ in Portland. Then if I want to accept Magic Bands, I would need to have a seperate scanner that connects through Disney, not my bank, to accept the room charge.

How do you believe Salt and Straw charged your magic band on days they didn't have access to your magic band? You're throwing shade at a company when the double charge was probably caused by a SNAFU in Disney's IT.

It could alsobe a S & S Employee not familiar with how exactly the Disney system works vs the regular MC system, and simply making a mistake. Especially if this didn't happen at any other non-Disney owned venue.

Ah, ok. Didn't realize I should compare an ice cream store to Billion $ companies.
you don't but its naive to think any company or their employees are not capable of fraud. we had an experience with a popular Epcot (non Disney owned) bar/restaurant where the employees were overcharging for spirits so unsuspecting guests would tip higher on the bill. it happens and people do risk their businesses because they think they can get away with it. there are many examples of companies small and large where this has occurred.

Tell that to Enron, FTX, Bernie Madoff investments, Worldcom, etc etc etc etc
Worldcom ... oh, my. I so liked Bernie Ebbers. I believed him through and through ... loved his management style right down to the cowboy boots. Oh, my.
