Thanks!

Everyone was safe and, really, a few hundred bucks of basement damage is pretty minimal compared to "life and limb".

In the grand scheme of things, in "The Norway Family vs Irene"..I DEFINITELY consider this a "win"! I wasn't so sure when she was headed our way....and was even less confident when the power popped at around 8 AM and I knew we were going to have to bail.

But....you know...the family that bails together, stays together. :)

Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you feared.

I could use some prayers for my dad. He fought going back to the doctor on Friday and Saturday. Ended up having to take him to the emergency room yesterday. He has severe pneumonia in what is left of his right lung (lung cancer 5 years ago) and they sedated him and put him on a ventilator. Currently stable, but they don't expect any major improvement for a few days.

Prayers for your father.

Good afternoon, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

I was late getting on here because I had some cleaning up to do outside and bob had PT this morning. It is a gorgeous day here!

Hi everyone! I'm just popping in from WDW to say Hi! I don't have time to catch up with all the posts I've missed, but I wanted to let you know I've been thinking of you all and so glad Irene is out of there! I have family in VT I need to get hold of.

Elin, I've been waiting for a text from you! :rolleyes1

Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers...

So glad everyone is ok after the storm! Here (coastal SC) we were south of the worst but memories of Hugo live on....

pilferk... I think you all (and Vermont) got hit the hardest!

It was all water.

The wind was never THAT bad. Blustery, yes. Couple gusts that made you have to stand your grand for a sec. And there WAS a constant 'breeze". But by the time it made it up here through the teeth of the foothills, into the higher elevations...the winds seemed shredded.

But I've never, ever, ever seen that much water fall in such a short period of time.

Luckily, it was warm, the wind wasn't cold, and being completely soaked to your skin wasn't all THAT bad....

We have ordered the replacement flooring today....we'll do some shopping this weekend to replace the rest.

If we'd had 6+ inches of water in our basement...we would have had to cancel our upcoming trip. We don't have flood (our insurance company doesn't offer it to us because we're not in a flood zone)...and we would have had to replace our furnace. Thankfully, that didn't happen to us.

Just found out, it DID happen to our neighbor. Same basic situation, except they didn't take the same precautions we did (they'd NEVER had water accumulate...we have, two or three times over the past 9 years). No sandbags around the basement door. No downspout extentions to move water away from the house as far as they could. They didn't stay up all night to light up a sump pump every time water started to encroach.

They woke up Sunday morning to 6 1/2 inches of water in their basement...and called the fire department. It didn't save the furnace. That's what I was afraid would've happened to us....

We're working with our other neighbors to try to do SOMETHING to help them out.....In fact, I'm heading out into the neighborhood to meet with a bunch of our neighbors to brainstorm.

Please add me to the list of those needing prayers. I had a biopsy four days before we left Delaware. Two days later, my doctor called to inform me that I needed a second biopsy asap. A friend in Florida recommended her doctor and tomorrow morning I'm having the procedure. It's been hard trying to enjoy my new life in Florida with this in the back of my mind. Up until now, I tried not to think too much about it, but ....

I'm so glad that I have so many friends here that keep me laughing and are always there to talk to. :grouphug:

Angel - I hope your friends are OK. I am thinking they probably are. There were wide-spread power outages and lots of trees down but nothing catastrophic. Telephone and internet service have also been out sporadically. I hope you hear from them soon.

Thank you sweetie, we have not heard from them, however if they are ok he probably went to work today. He works in Washington. I will try calling again in a little while.

Thanks!

Pilferk, Glad to hear you all are fine with small amount of water. Love your "family that bails together...stays together. " :rotfl2: So true too!:thumbsup2

Well we survived Irene. I think RI got more wind while CT got all the rain. We did have a huge tree branch fall on our house but luckily no damage. And surprisely we are one of the few that never lost power.:worship: Half the state is still without.

Supposed to be at AKL this coming weekend and with the damages of Hurricane Irene to the Amtrak rail system, I'm not sure we'll make it :sad1:

Hope eveyone have a speedy recovery!

Pixie dust that you will be able to make it!

Thanks for the prayers for my dad. It will take longer than usual to see any progress as it turns out his pneumonia was caused by Legionnaires. Fortunately they tested for it after discovering he became ill after arriving home from a cruise. They have him on several strong antibiotics, but it will be slow to start breaking up.

Good Evening Everyone! :wave2:
