Good luck at Fenway Bark!

52 days will be here before you know it. :goodvibes

Thanks!:thumbsup2

Good luck to Beauty!

Thank you!

We're baaaack! and we had a great trip. Bob was a Super Hero and accomplished so many things I wasn't sure he could do. I have not qualms about traveling with him again!

The earthquake was centered about 30 minutes from out house here in Virginia. Out younger daughter came over to do a quick check of the house and the dog and all seemed fine. Bob and I checked again when we got home and we don't see any structural damage. There were books off the shelves, things off the mantle, lampshades cockeyed and pictures askew. But nothing appears to be broken. We did not feel it in Boston, but we were in a low building. Older daughter felt it in her office at BU and SIL felt it in her office too.

There are broken gas lines in town and some damage. Areas around us, including DC fared much worse, oddly enough. I am glad we weren't here!

Glad you're back and safe...Crazy about the earthquake, huh?

Jen - Hey Girl!!!!! Miss ya!! Hugs and good luck to beauty!!

Miss ya too:hug:

Beauty did well, she was terrified, but she did just fine!

So Brandi leaves the country and we get earthquakes and now hurricanes:confused:

That is great that you had a wonderful time and glad there was no damage to your house.

Hello to all the AKL Lite peeps. You seem like a very friendly bunch! :) It has always been a dream of my family to spend a night at AKL, but my budget kept telling me we were more of a value resort crew.

However after several years, the dream hasn't diminished, so we decided to skip a year at Disney so that we could afford the vacation of our dreams. I'm SO excited to say that I have us booked for January 2012....woo hoo!

So, I'm happily devouring all the info I can so that I make the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Since this is all entirely new to me, I'm slowwwwly chipping away at the AKL Lite threads and learning a lot. There's so much to thread that I'm sure I'll be spending the next few weeks lurking away while I devour all the AKL info that I can. So, I thought it was only polite to say "hi" and thanks for being a part of my upcoming dream trip!

June

:welcome:

While Brandi is vacationing, I'm taking care of her wonderful "list":

Here is the latest list of everyone visiting this year....:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

:goodvibes

:goodvibes Well could you please add us 6/22-7/5 @ AKL Jambo. We might tweek the dates when winter is over and know if DH has lots of snow days to make up but for now that is what we have booked.

Question on transportation from AKL to the AK. We have a 8:45 reservation for our first Wild Africa Trek. Will we be able to take the bus from AKL and make it to the back of Tusker House by 8:30?, or should we drive over to the park?:surfweb:

Personally I prefer driving and with being so close to the park it is less than a 5 minute car ride and you should be able to get a front spot.

But I just read the other day that AK parking lot only opens 15min before opening:confused3 so that may effect your decision.

OK, I need Kidanite & Jamborini advice!

As you may know (at least from the list on the first page of this thread! :rotfl:) we're going back to Disney in October for F&W - have to get one more use out of my AP! DH doesn't like the parks and will be very happy not setting foot into one other than Epcot. He loves Jiko, and wanted to try Boma. He likes Indian food, so I booked Sanaa as well; actually booked the lunch with the Animal Keepers. I also booked AKL with a savannah view so he could sit outside on the balcony with his laptop and my extra-long network cord, watch the animals and work. The AP rates come out and there's nothing available at Jambo House, but for the same price I can book a 1 BR at Kidani. So I did.

Now that price is still really expensive, even though I know it's a good price for Kidani. For $200 less per night, I can book a 2BR at Caribe Royale; for $250 less per night I can book a 1 BR (no kitchen). (Possible 3 adults, which is why I was looking at the 2 BR.) We're also redoing our kitchen which is coming out more expensive than we had anticipated.

With the AP, I get free parking at the parks, and it's still cheaper if I rent a car for the week.

WWYD? This will probably be our last trip to Disney for a few years - believe it or not, I'm in Disney fatigue.

For me I have to stay on Disney property. I will admit that I am a Disney snob.:lmao: The few times we have driven off to go to a store I just hate driving through all the traffic and lights.

But it seems if you are in Disney fatigue maybe a change is what you need and the Caribe Royale seems like a nice resort.

So Brandi leaves the country and we get earthquakes and now hurricanes:confused:

Hmmmm, that is an interesting observation!! :rotfl:

Please take care any of y'all on the mid atlantic or NE coast.

Can you send a care package of the same items up to me?

We're starting the process of "battening down" this afternoon.

Should be "fun". I'll let you all know if we end up with a foot of water in our (finished) basement or not.....

Good morning, Jamborinis and Kidanites! :sunny:

Batten down the hatches!

...sounds like some really great ressies - I'D stay with Kidani, but that's JMHO...do you really need to rent a car? If you don't, that'll save you some money....:confused3 :teeth:

BTW, how is your mother making out?

Thanks for all the advice re off-site v. Kidani. I'm still cogitating.

But where are our Friday Zebra Domes?? We need those to maintain our strength for Irene!

...yeah....even my younger brother had concerns about her coming back for another extended stay (her last visit actually put a strain on his and his wife's relationship! :guilty: ) We all feel really awful about saying these bad things about our mom; I mean, we truly love her and all, but she just overstays her welcome. I know there are plenty of you out there that no longer have your moms, but it's really a basic fact that we LOVE OUR MOM - we just can't LIVE WITH HER! :sad2: She's not feeble or bed-ridden - she's basically a vibrant, 'young' 75-y-o, so it's not like she needs constant care and/or supervision [thank God!]. She's lived on her own for quite some time now, and I think she believes that, whatever her lifestyle is in her own home, can be carried out to wherever she visits. Apparently, something must have happened immediately after her operation, while she was on-the-mend at her cousin's house. She was to stay there for 7 or 8 days, but suddenly called me to come pick her up [with no explanation]. Our guess is that she probably got on her cousin's nerves too....* sigh *

....:guilty: don't ask. My sister talked to her yesterday, and she wants to come a few weeks EARLIER than her usual Thanksgiving/Christmas visit.....hoo boy....

I could've SWORN that you had a trip planned around then, right. :cool1:

I could've SWORN that you had a trip planned around then, right. :cool1:

...actually, there was talk about that between my younger brother and myself, figuring that it would prevent my mom from visiting here....besides, nuttin' wrong with Christmas in the Carribbean, eh? ;)
