Sailing Distances Between Ports Of Call

I am trying to determine the nautical miles sailed between each Port of Call on the Western. The online Navigators yield the distances between Port Canaveral and Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, and Castaway Key and Port Canaveral.

What I can't find is the distance travelled on the two Days at Sea--the distance travelled from Key West to Grand Cayman, and the distance from Cozumel to Castaway Cay.

I haven't discovered any online resource that will calculate the sailing distance (as opposed to "as the crow flies"), nor any summary of these two illusive numbers.

Does anyone have a clue on these two items?

This is always such a helpful board--thanks in advance!

I don't remember, but if there is someone sailing I think on the tv it gives you each day how many miles were sailed. Anybody else remember this? Also I do believe somwhere it tells you how many total miles were sailed, I think on the last navigator(welcome home), never liked that navigator! Anyway maybe you could subtract the distances between ports and come up with a close figure for days at sea.

I don't have my old navigators in front of me, but I am pretty sure that this is listed each day on the front page of the navigator.

The total miles sailed is in the final Navigator; in the case of the Navigator's posted at Barb's site, it is 2037 nautical miles.

I couldn't find the numbers for the two days at sea on the Navigators--perhaps they are normally included but were left off the week of the Navigators that are posted.

If anyone has their old Navigators and can find the miles sailed on the days at sea, or if they remember what was on the TV screen, that would be great!

I can estimate the distance, but I need at least one more hard number--either Key West to Grand Cayman, or Cozumel to Castaway Cay--to get an accurate and complete picture.

It's a little obsessive I know, but at least it's has nothing to do with the water quality in the kid's pool. <g>

According to a new set of Navigators I just received in the mail today (<i>thanks, cin</i>)...

<table border=0 cellpadding=5><tr><td align=right><i>Port Canaveral to Key West</i>:</td><td align=right><b>320 nm</b></td></tr><tr><td align=right><i>Key West to Grand Cayman</i>:</td><td align=right><b>532 nm</b></td></tr><tr><td align=right><i>Grand Cayman to Cozumel</i>:</td><td align=right><b>331 nm</b></td></tr><tr><td align=right><i>Cozumel to Castaway Cay</i>:</td><td align=right><b>651 nm</b></td></tr><tr><td align=right><i>Castaway Cay to Port Canaveral</i>:</td><td align=right><b>225 nm</b></td></tr></table>

10 seconds on a calculator tells you that this adds up to 2059 nm, but DCL says the total is 2037. Go figure.

Thanks, Dave!

Your universe of information never fails to amaze me.

Hey RDT, I have a portable GPS that I was planning to take along on our 11/9 Western just for the fun of watching the ship track.

It automatically records info such as ship speed, distance travelled etc. If you want I can give you a report after our sailing.

I'd be very interested in what you learn from your GPS. We are sailing in October--maybe I will try and take one along.
