Do other cruise lines have a sail a way party like DCL does? And if so, what are they like?
We sailed the Enchantment, but we sailed later than expected waiting for people to arrive so the party still happened at 5:00 p.m., but it was a bit anti-climatic. The people living in the condos leaving FLL were having great parties saying good bye to the ships though. So yes, some have parties, but DCLs was so much fun and had a lot of energy, more so than our RCI experience.
I have sailed on Carnival from Tampa and Port Canaveral, Royal C. from Port Everglades and Port Canaveral and of course Disney from Port Canveral and all I can say is that DCL so far is the only ship that has an "onboard sail away party". Plus, so far they are also the only cruiseline that I have experienced where the employees actually come out and waved the ship off.
The other ports themselves acknowldge the sail aways it seemed in their own ways. For example, the Tampa port has Channelside which is full of restaurants, hangs outs, a movie theater and a bowling alley etc. so their are alot of folks that gather around to see the ship off. In Port Canaveral (my favorite port to sail out of and I am from Tampa) their are bars and restaurants as well as a campground and fishing peir on the rightside of the channel that folks always watch the ships sailaway from and wave. The ships always blast their horns as they sail down and out that cannel as well. And at Port Evergaldes, well it was probably the least exciting of all the ports I have sailed out of so far. I didn't see anyone paying attention to the ships.
Hope this helps! Don't miss DCL'S SAILAWAY Party!
