We have booked a lodge suite at The Sagamore for Christmas. We're hoping to see snow and do some skiing. I've been reading a lot of negative reviews of the resort online, and was wondering if any DVC members have any first hand knowledge? Are their other convenient restaurants nearby? Sagamore sounds a little pricey on food.....

Yes, the Sagamore is pricey. But it's also very classy in an old-Adirondacks sort of way. You'll have a wonderful holiday.

I'm curious too... This is my nephew and fiance's favorite getaway spot. So much so that they're having their wedding and reception there next September. They love the beauty, serenity and first class service they've experienced there and wanted to share it with family and close friends on their special day. Needless to say, we can't wait!

Sagamore is a first class resort with service and prices to match. If you want to eat cheaper either go to their grill downstairs or take a short walk to the little town that is just down the road from the resort. I stayed in the lodge the last time I stayed there. I would put it a par with the one and two bedrooms at DVC plus you get great service. There is a large in-door pool for you to swim in in the winter. They give shuttle service to the nearby ski-resort. It is in the directory of referred resorts, they have very high standards.

I have only been to Lake George in the summer but there were alot of restaurants there. ALOT.

Not sure what reviews you are looking at, the ones i have seen on here have been good.

TV programs to note if you haven't seen them, travelchannel samantha brown visited on great hotels may be on again, and Rachel Ray on foodtv 40/day did the Adirondacks with high tea at Sagamore and Lake George.

Please post after your stay!

I think you'll love your trip. We've stayed in the lodges two or three times. Very quite and peaceful. It is a little expensive to eat though.

Lake George is about twenty minutes away. There should still be a lot of restaurants open. Many close during the winter.

The Sagamore has a great Sunday brunch.

Snow? In 2002 it started snowing Christmas day and was still going off and on through New Years. I think they had a 26", 12", and 16".

Have a great time!
