Safety at Resorts???

I try to be aware of my surroundings no matter where I stay, whether it's at Disney or anywhere else.

I always keep the door locked completely. All hotel doors look the same, and sometimes people may not be looking at the room numbers as closely as they should, and accidentally try to access the wrong room.

Disney is really no different than anywhere else, there's always the possibility that someone may behave in an inappropriate manner.

I'm probably more obsessed with keeping track of my important documents, like credit card, KTTW card, that type of thing, while at WDW than other places, or just day to day living.

I have stayed at each of the mods and each of the values. I have always felt very safe.

When you enter each resort there is a guard. The security at night - both on foot as well as in the parking lots - is quite obvious. This makes me feel extremely safe and protected. I never get that "alone on a dark road at night" feeling. I feel equally as safe as I do at my own home (suburban Philadelphia).

So - YES - I feel safe at Disney.

I been reading some of the threads about staying offsite and wow some of them are quite scary especially the outside corridor ones.
I understand you need to be aware of your situation no matter where you stay
My question is does everyone feel safe at the values and mods?
Has anyone had a scary situation?
I don't know if I would better off staying at a value or mod or staying in downtown disney (Holiday Inn) in a inside corridor resort that isn't disney?

I feel safe both off an onsite. I would not say either makes me feel more safe. I am always aware of my safety, and that of my children, regardless of where I stay.

In the last 10 years of going down there, we have never had a problem on site. Pop is a very safe resort with all the guards, life guards etc.

I've never had a moment where I felt unsafe or even uncomfortable at any resort we've stayed at or visited. I think it's just common sense. Don't leave yourself in a situation where you aren't in control of your surroundings. Be aware of what's going on and you'll be just fine.
People like to think that anyone committing a crime at Disney would be outsiders. I think if you're foolish enough to be leaving your wallet in plain sight or any other valuables, people are going seize the opportunity. Even people who love Mickey Mouse!
I once used my keycard in the wrong door! The doors in Magnolia POR all look the same! I don't think I freaked anyone out though!

But I would have big feelings of insecurity about staying off-property on Hotel Plaza Blvd., even at a "Name Brand" hotel. Those places are old now, losing out to competition from new hotels with better amenities. So they lower their prices, cut their staff, and attract lower clientele. The exception would be the Hilton Lake Buena Vista at the corner across from DTD.

All due respect - I stayed there several times when it was the Courtyard, on very discount rates (employee, friends/family). I was always put in a tower room, and I wasn't 'anybody'; the floors and views varied. I may have faced HPB, or the pool, or the highway. In fact, a number of the low-rise rooms faced the pool, too. I admit, I don't know what changes HI has made.

As safe as I feel at a deluxe or DVC property. No less, no more. Simply because a property has indoor corridors doesn't make it safer than one with outdoor walkways. What matters more is common sense, and security.

I feel safe at any WDW resort as well as any Orlando-area property at which I've stayed. I feel safer at pretty much any Las Vegas hotel. Why? Hotel security. Eye in the sky, security personnel on the floor, prove you're staying there before you can access the room elevators.

I was a little concerned when I stayed at Pop without my husband. It was going to be me & DD for a few days until our friends met up with us. Our plane didn't arrive until after 10, so in the dark of the night . . . we trudged our suitcases to ME and the and then Pop. Never once in 10 days did we feel unsafe. Never once, not for a second.

I go to WDW several times a year and most of those trips are solo trips. I have never felt unsafe in any WDW (Value, Moderate, or Deluxe). Just be aware of your surroundings.
