everyone!

I have an upcoming DVC. I will be buying groceries on the first day of my trip before heading to our Resort on property (AKL). I live in a very low crime rate Country and would like to know the safest areas. What neighbourhood or Store is very safe and not a hot spot for crime? (Town or Walmart, Target, etc)

Thank you and please be assured I do not want to disrespect/offend anyone here regarding my concern of crime/safety. Of course it is a small %.

Have a magical day! Xxx
(Will rent a car for 24hrs from MCO and leave it at Disney's Car care center the next day)

Forgive me I meant to say Hello*** Everyone! Oops!

There is a Publix Grocery Store and a SuperTarget about 5 (driving) miles from AKV.

Pubix Orlando Lake Town Center
14928 E Orange Lake Blvd
Kissimmee, FL 34747

Super Target
3200 Rolling Oaks Blvd
Kissimmee, FL 34747

There are also Publix and Target stores on 192 which would be safe to go to. You would exit WDW property on Sherbeth Rd., which is very close to the AKL guard shack, and follow that to 192. Turn right on 192 and the stores are probably a mile or two down the road.

There’s a target at Flamingo Crossing. Just get on western way . It’s right outside Disney property. You could also order ahead for stores like Publix and Target. They will bring out to your car.

We like the Publix on E. Orange Lake Blvd. - it's very easy to get to and back from AKL. We did not like the Super Target on Rolling Oaks Blvd., found it tricky to get into the parking lot, but we haven't been to the newer Target at Flamingo Crossing, which would be easier to get to. The one at Flamingo Crossing appears to have limited grocery items, though, so you might want to check the website before you go, to be sure they have what you need.

as OKW said the Target and Publix are very close maybe 10 minutes from AKL. I will say the last time i went which was a while ago Target did not have a great selection and was pricey for what it had. Both a directly across from each other.

Another option is to place an order from Amazon Whole Foods for your arrival day. The bell desk will accept your order, refrigerate any chilled items, and deliver it all to your room when you get there.

Does the resort charge for this? Like they do with an Amazon delivery?
If your groceries are left with Bell Services, and you call them to request they be delivered to your room, there is a $6 charge. If you pick them up yourself, there is no charge. Just note that the company you order from will probably have a delivery charge.

Are you making your grocery stop on your way from MCO?

Car service drivers stop at the Publix 9930 Universal Blvd

It's on the way and only adds a couple of minutes of drive time.

edited to add It's very safe and doesn't appear to be overly crowded. You can download the app. Make a shopping list organized by aisle.

Shopping at that Publix is convenient if you’ll be taking 528 to I-4 to WDW. We prefer 417 to Osceola Parkway (we’ll do anything to avoid I-4), in which case the Orange Lake Publix is more convenient. So you’ll want to map your route before deciding where to shop.

Or map which route, including the stop, is faster. Internet boards seem to favor the Southern route. Google maps, including traffic, favor the N route. It's faster. Professional drivers favor the N route. The Publix I mentioned is very easy on and off. The area of that Publix isn't as congested as 192 and Orange Lake.

Stay in the bubble. Use Instacart! They deliver beer.

(Edit... I don't think you need to worry too much about Publix parking lots... Just way more fun in the bubble 😀)

Yep, definitely a matter of personal preference. I wonder if tolls on 417 are higher and that contributes to the Google and professional preference for 528? Anyway, whenever we drive I-4 we seem to run into some kind of congestion and slowdown, so we avoid it. We’re glad to have a portable toll tag!

Anecdotal evidence, internet posts, tells us to take S route to avoid traffic on N route
Google constantly says we're wrong. The N route is a few minutes faster, or the same, every time I've checked.

Google says N route is more efficient based on
  • Average fuel consumption for vehicles in your region
  • Steepness of hills on your route
  • Stop-and-go traffic patterns
  • Types of roads (such as local roads or highways)
The Publix is incredibly easy on.and off

If safety is your main concern, I would definitely look into grocery delivery options listed above. It's easy and less stressful.
