I remember someone talking about a safe sunscreen for the kids recently. I just went on a website that scared me, honestly. Every sunscreen I have in the closet for my kids has some unsafe, cancer causing, allergy inducing ingredient in it. Does anyone know of a safer alternative to Coppertone or Banana Boat? I am looking for a spray on because it is more convenient. Thanks in advance. :yay:

I like Neutrtrogena's Sensitive Skin, spf 30. I think it only has the titanium dioxide in it and is easy to find in stores. It has worked for our fair-skinned family well. I have seen others recommend Blue Lizard but have not tried it myself.

Another one to try is Mustela but I don't think they make it in the spray form. We used it with our infant last summer, worked well but is very messy.

I have been told that California Baby is pretty good too, but I have not tried it.

Can you share some of your links with me on what you've been reading?

mary Kay has a good sunblock spf 30, and it is approved by the cancer association.

I am out of the loop on this one I guess. What is scary about sunscreen? Has there been a new finding?

I like Blue Lizard too - I had to buy this for my son last year because he has sensitive skin and broke out when I used other brands on him. It is harder to rub in because of the zinc, but it is a "physical sunblock" which means it starts working right away and it doesn't take 30 minutes like a "chemical sunblock". I reapply it after swimming or when he is sweating a lot because I don't think it is as long lasting as the other stuff. I couldn't find it anywhere locally, so I order mine from drugstore.com

I would recommend Blue Lizard ( i use the baby or sensitive formula on my girls) or California baby...
We have used both of these for the last few years and i can honestly say that we have not had one sunburn..and we spend a lot of time outside in the summer. *knock on wood* LOL
BUt if you are looking for something that is not filled with a bunch of chemical these are GREAT!!!!

The only sunscreen we can use on DD that does not cause her to break out is Vanicream sunscreen, our pharmacy orders it for us. The dermatologist said it's the most "pure" meaning it doesn't have unnecessary ingredients.

While we were at WDW, I let her use the California baby sunscreen stick on her face while I did her body. I had used the stick on her before but this time it caused an eczema flare-up. Her face was bright red everywhere she had rubbed it!

My DH has had tons of cancerous spots removed, one which was pretty extreme, and he and I have been using the Ocean Potion sunscreen in the link below. I used to love the is one called PreSun, but they don't make it anymore. I imagine the ingedients aren't any different than those in Coppertone, but for my kids I've been using the Hawaiian Tropic and Panama Jack spray.

The dermatologist we just saw recommended that we use something with anthelios as an ingredient as the #1 for sun protection. She also said she used neutragenia sensitive skin on her kids for years and likes that the best for the easy to find ones since it doesn't have many chemicals.

I like Aveeno Baby Sunblock Lotion Continuous Protection SPF 55! I read a sunscreen study that rated Aveeno as one of the top 3 sunscreens for babies. The others were Blue Lizard Australian Suncream SPF 30/Baby and California Baby Water-Resistant Hypo-Allergenic Sunscreen SPF 30-plus. Aveeno was easy to find and priced right! I love Aveen products for me and DH too!
