So apparently proof of vaccination is coming into effect in order to go to restaurants or other indoor venues on Oahu on Sept 13 and will initially last until Nov 12. From everything that I have read, proof of vaccination has to take the form of a state-approved
vaccine card (no mention of acceptable proof from foreign traveller) and the vaccine must be one that has been approved by the FDA (so no luck for those who received AZ or mixed AZ with mRNA, even if they do accept some form of Canadian proof of vaccination). We have a trip booked for Nov 5-15 (to Marriott Ko Olina and then Aulani) so this really throws us for a curve. I will keep scouring for updates, but if anyone hears any updates about how this impacts Canadians (or if any Canadians over there post Sept 13 have any real life updates), please post them here!

We are looking at going march 2022,,, Maybe post on the Aulani thread way up the boards,,, they might be able to help quicker there.

I know, this is a mess. We need a national vaccine platform stat. We go in Feb 2022 and in order to get a Hawaii-approved Covid test, we need to go to New Brunswick (we live in Nova Scotia) as there are no testing sites in our province!! How is that possible? With current conditions we would need to get a Covid test in Oahu every few days to eat in a restaurant, despite the fact that we are both double pfizered. I am not convinced the current federal election is helping the speed of roll out or development of this, as folks are distracted! ARGH!!

I don’t think Hawaii is particularly interested in making it easier for anyone to visit, as they are already overloaded with tourists as it is…I understand the streets have gotten significantly quieter over the past week, so it’s probably nice to visit from that POV

Yet another vacation my mixed vaccines will make impossible to take.
It looks like Alberta has announced people that had an AstraZeneca mixed dose are eligible for a booster . I think I read Quebec is doing this too, but don’t quote me on that one. It’s frustrating to wait for an answer but I think Ontario will have to offer boosters for us as well.

ETA) Saskatchewan is doing this as well . In Ontario we have prioritized boosters for immune compromised persons (rightfully so) but I think we will be in a later group.

We were booked for Aulani for March 2022 but just switched to Vero Beach at the 7 month mark (I know, out of the frying pan into the fire 🤣). I'm glad we did now because with our mixed vaccines, we also could not go to restaurants etc in Hawaii if their vaccine passport is still in play then. Sigh.

I think we will probably have our boosters by then which will most likely be the same type as your second shot. That should alleviate some of those mixed vaccine issues.

But will the US still consider us fully vaccinated even with the booster? My AZ shot will still show on my card. The only definitive way to make sure we are accepted is for the US CDC to recognize mixed vaccines and I don't think they will (not for quite some time anyway).

My understanding is that getting two shots of the MRNA in succession will count as a full course of the vaccine.

That is my understanding as well.

From the CDC:

In general, people are considered fully vaccinated: ±

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

I get what you guys are saying (and what the CDC is saying) but my vaccine card states both of my doses so if I have a third (booster) I'm assuming that AZ won't "drop off" and will still show. Plus my mRNA doses will be months in between so again, they might take issue with that. Sorry, being a downer I know :( just trying to come up with every possibility.

I don't think that having three vaccines is going to make you less than fully vaccinated. As long as the two mRNA shots are consecutive, I don't think it will be an issue. Time between vaccines doesn't seem to be a requirement for being fully vaccinated...just the two weeks after the last one. That's what my crystal ball says anyways!

I’m thinking the same as Damo. Having an extra vaccine on there won’t be a problem as long as we have two of the approved vaccines at an acceptable interval. I’m hoping anyway.

Alberta opened up booster shots on the 1st of Sept (immuno-compromised, Seniors and Travellers) I got my Pfizer booster on the 2nd (was mixed dose vaccinated Az/Ph), and there was zero wait time. I walked up to the clinic, in the door and walked out in 20 minutes later and that includes the 15 minute wait time. The province is now bribing people to get vaccinated.

So even if they offer a booster of MRNA, my double AZ will stop me from doing some things. So frustrating.
