Safari Ride

Haha if I tell DH I posted this worry on a message board he might seriously try to commit me.

We just did this ride in June, & felt completely safe. We hadn't done the Safari ride for a number of years, we really liked the "new" approach (ditching the old poacher story line). :)

When we did the Sunrise Safari in June, our guide did tell us that a few particular animals occasionally decide to park it in the middle of the trail and that can sometimes hold up the safari. These are the giraffe, zebra, wildebeest type animals and not meat eaters. He mentioned that several animals have been moved over to the savannas at AKL because he/she had become particularly ornery. We had our 4 year old boy with us and I promise it is very safe.

I've done a few safaris in Africa and even there I felt very safe in the vehicles. The animals are indifferent for the most part. I've had a couple of experiences where elephants have challenged our vehicle, but we just back down, and the elephant, having established his dominance, let's it go. Anyway the ride feels even safer than the real thing.

I think there is more of a chance my indoor cat will pounce on me than being attacked by a lion during the safari ride.

I've never been to AK so of course we have to do the safari. My question is......do you feel safe on this ride? Like- how accessible are the lions? Are they really wandering around where you drive through???

From the Disney Parks video that I've seen several times on the Travel Channel, there is a moat between the vehicles and the lions... 18 feet across if I recall correctly. I've also taken my family on this ride several times and have never felt unsafe in the least.

The biggest concern I ever have on the safari is dropping my camera! Just be sure to keep a good hold on it when taking pictures!

The animals seem to be roaming free everywhere but there are natural looking and unseen boundaries to keep them away from each other and you!

Ha! That is great!

I've been on the safari several times over the last few years and I've only ever seen one person get mauled; pretty sure she lived too. You should be okay.

Of course there's always chaos theory, where say those impassable barriers become passable due to some random event...you know like in Jurassic Park. But what are the odds of that?? ;)

This made me smile. :)

Have no fear, it's safe. The lions (and most of the other animals) don't have access to the vehicle. Disney uses awesome techniques to make it look like they can come up to you, but they really can't.
