I've never been to AK so of course we have to do the safari. My question is......do you feel safe on this ride? Like- how accessible are the lions? Are they really wandering around where you drive through???

Yes, you feel very safe. It will appear the animals are close and have no boundaries, but they are in fact kept away by natural looking boundaries.

Yes I feel safe on the ride.

Don't know how accessible the lions are if they could come down, I look at it more as why would they want to. They are well fed... so what reason do they have to go deal with that load truck and all those annoying humans? They have a comfy sunny perch where no one bothers them.

Rhinos and Giraffes I do know really do wonder around where you drive though, I have seen pictures with both standing across the path and blocking the trucks for a little while.

There's a really great Disney Parks Animal Kingdom video on Netflix that shows how they designed the safari. I've been on it multiple times and I can assure you it's very safe. There are numerous, very well constructed hidden barriers. It's an amazing experience, not to be missed. And keep in mind, It wouldn't be good business for Disney to offer a ride where children could be eaten by exotic animals.

The other thing to keep in mind, and this is from my experience in Africa where there were no barriers and the animals were truly wild, an animal views the safari car as one entity, not a tray full of tasty snacks ;) (really, that's how they described it lol), and as long as people stay put, they have no natural interest in it. And as the pp said, Disney isn't taking chances!

Haha thanks for trying to ease my mind. I will be a nervous wreck. What if my DS picks that moment to yell or misbehave?

As long as misbehave does involve trying to leave the ride vehicle you should be fine.

If it does that I would suggest that if you can't control your child trying to leave the ride vehicle there are MANY rides at disney that are NOT safe.

I have done the Safari ride over 20 times with children ranging between 2 and 13 as well as a senior citizen, and a cranky DH. As tempted as I was to leave my DH on one particular trip the lions still would not have cared. Half the time they are basking in the sun or shade resting their full bellies. Trust me these animals will not hurt you. The only thing that ever happened to us was a road block because some of the animals felt the road would be a good restroom and several of them lined up at once to go potty. Funny to my kids, and completely harmless. Plus the closer the animals get the better your photos. Just sit back and relax, it really is a lot of fun.

Wouldn't matter. The lions simply don't have access to the safari truck. As PP mentioned, there are heavily camouflaged barriers in between that give the illusion you're "in there WITH the lions" when you really are not. :)

Cranky DH's are the most dangerous animal

Growl! ;)

I think you are seriously underestimating the lengths Disney goes to keep all park-goers safe. There is no more danger on this attraction than there is in traveling to WDW in the first place. Kilimanjaro Safari is a kiddie-ride in my opinion.

I love the feed DH to the lions joke! There are some days where I would book a FP+ for that attraction feature ;)

Yes you are right.

Haha...there is 0% chance of any of the carnivores being able to access the ride. It is like riding around on a jeep at a zoo. A well designed zoo, but a zoo with impossible to cross fences/barriers, none the less. Are you nervous at the zoo?

Several of the herbivores are free ranging (no fences), but they have as much interest in you as they do a rock. Actually rhinos can be very social animals and many enjoy the company of humans.
