Saddam Hussein execution botched?

Should American news reporters that start riots there be jailed as well ..?

No. News reporters should ALL BE ARRESTED RIGHT NOW and sent to some dodgy camp on an island.

If we don't act RIGHT NOW then they might do stuff or something.

I find it interesting that the supporters of SH are the ones that are outraged at his "botched" execution. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these the same people that were SH's henchmen who ran the torture chambers and rape rooms? Tossing people into giant shredders? Executing innocent women and children? Using WMDs on the Kurds?

Please, spare me the moral outrage.

No kidding. the "poor man" was insulted. Spare me the tears. His crimes against humanity probably warranted a lot of what he was so willing to dish out to his innocent victims. Its not a botched execution because he is still dead.

How do you think the the camera phone got in that room? Do you think it wasn't known it would be videotaped by anyone who could..(maybe sell it)
These people weren't frisked? Give me a break. They don't care about it being taped, they are mortified that the behavior of the executioners was caught on camera. How does it look that the "Butcher of Baghdad" acted more dignified then those meting out the justice? You answered your own question. It would be known there was taunting but no one wanted it all over the net. That's why they were arrested, for showing the world what thugs did the bidding.
The media there filmed the execution to show for everyone at a later date.

If you saw the video that is on the net, it is jerky, it points at the ground often and it's pretty far from Saddam at first. I was in a room with 5 people when I watched it. Every one of them thought he was trying to hide the camera.

Why do they allow camera phones on airplanes? Aren't people searched? I don't think that's what they're searching people for.

Let me get the point of your latest post now. They knew people were taking things to film in there maybe for profit, they didn't care even if they sold them, just don't record the thuggery but the thuggery was going to take place and was kinda nod nod wink wink sanctioned?

Survivor Achor Island. Sounds good to me. Maybe some will win enough money and decide not to come back.

millions of dollars per day to wage an illegal war and we get smuggled camera phone footage. for that price, it should have been broadcast in hi-def.

I'm talking about the guards shouting insults at him before he was hanged. Haven't you seen the video?

Perhaps the guards were related to someone who was killed in one of his Kurd mass killings or maybe a woman or child they know was subjected to one of his rape rooms. I don't feel bad at all.

If the guards were related to someone killed by Saddam, they shouldn't have been there. It wasn't supposed to be a lynching. I don't feel bad for Saddam, it's the people who will suffer because of this that I feel bad for.

I'm not arguing with their right to carry out the sentence, although even the trial was a shambles, but surely they had to realise that it should have been done in a dignified, sensitive way. Not for Saddam Hussein's sake, but to try and avoid adding even more fuel to the fire.

When DH was in Iraq, he worked closely with an Iraqi officer who told him that there was hardly a family in Iraq who wasn't directly touched by Saddam's brutality. He himself had several families members, including a brother who was either tortured, killed or both.

.

Thre are few families in Iraq that haven't been touched by Saddam's brutality; Saddam even killed members of his own family.

And that's what I believe as well. I am certainly no fan of the death penalty, but it was Iraq's wish to carry out a death sentence, so be it. What I don't understand is all of the people who are saying "Big deal, they called him names" without seeing the true problem with the execution. That the crowd was chanting the name of the militant Shia leader, and not "Thank you, America, for your help in capturing this scumbag" or "Liberty!! Freedom!!! Justice!" is troubling, to say the least. If you don't think that Al Sadr doesn't have his mind set on running that country like an Iranian style Islamic State, you've got blinders on! And to think that, other than Charade, not one other Conservative on this board seems to care. IMO, the chanting for Muqtada al-Sadr during the execution is simply the canary in the coalmine for the state of Iraq.

You miss the entire point. It isn't about SH "feelings". I nor anyone else could give a shake about how he felt. It's about stirring the pot further, it's about the ability of the Iraqi gov't to carry out an execution, it's about the new Iraqi government's image of being above and DIFFERENT than the SH regime. The taunts from the guards widen the divide between the factions that are waring in Iraq. The sooner that those wounds can be bound (even somewhat) the sooner we can get OUR TROOPS HOME alive and in one piece.

We saw it the first time. Still didn't mean a thing. This was about not causing more problems and it being proof that we have accomplished nothing over there.

The new will be as bad as the old guys, and when the new leader makes Parade magazines most evil guy list I can't wait to see what you'll have to say then.

You are expecting Iraqis to behave like Americans. This IS the middle east. I one would have to import an executioner to find someone who was willing to do the job and not have tremendous HATE towards Saddam. Iraq is an old country, will old traditions that is attempting to turn into a new country. That will not happen over night and I am sure many things will happen in the next few years that will offend our sensibilities and be out of step with what Americans would do in similar circumstances.

No I'm expecting Iraqi's to act like responsible citizens and representitives of their own country. We and our troops are paying the tab. I do not think that it is too much to expect a handful of guards to keep their collective mouths shut for 15 minutes and pull a lever.

I agree but you have to understand that their culture is different than ours and this how they react. I'm not saying it's right and wish it were different. Hopefully in time they will learn to be more neutral when it comes to these things. But it's deeply ingrained so it may take a long time.

There certainly were people present that understood what was happening. There is a voice heard on the audio begging the guards to be quiet. You, me and everyone else has to wonder what fanatic was inspired by these taunts to go out and plant an IED or fill his car with bombs and slaughter a few dozen US troops and innocent citizens as payback.

Sadly, it doesn't take an execution for that to happen.

I also heard on one of the news stations over the weekend that it was important for the Iraqi citizens to see the dead body or they would not believe that he was really dead. Could that be the reason that the person snuck the cell phone in there to film in the first place?

I agree, they should have, they should be held accountable but its not entirely unexpected.
