Sad, sad day

:sad1: As of today, my contract is up for sale.

I'm sad to have to do it. We've enjoyed our points for 7 wonderful years, but 8 years of going to Disney and living on one income has taken its toll and we need to get out of some debt. I'm trying to just be happy that we have a way to reduce it a bit and cut our expenses- but this is a tough one. I'm also trying to remember that it is wonderful that we can manage on one income and live the way we've chosen, even without DVC. There are things I won't trade even to keep our small piece of WDW.

We'll still have our tiny VWL contract. We'll still be DVC members and get those benefits. We can go every 3 years. That's about all the Disney we can afford at the moment and its likely we won't have the time to go frequently during the next several years because I've decided to go back to college for a second degree, so it is the wise and reasonable thing to cash out on our other points. But to be honest, I don't want to. Neither does my dh.

He's talking about moving to central Florida, so we can visit WDW without needing accomodations. I'm thinking we can still do those DVC AP's every 3 years and stay off property for a second trip- a friend had a very good experience with an off property townhome and it sounds like a good option for us. Unfortunately Disney doesn't really have great affordable options for a family of 5 that aren't DVC. But we'll see.

In a couple of years I'll be able to work again and we'll have 2 decent incomes for the first time in our lives- if we aren't moving to Florida by then we'll certainly be buying DVC again!

So I suppose I'm looking for condolances and good wishes for a swift and easy sale- or that something comes along to make the sale unneccessary! If I could, I'd pull if off the market in an instant and buy even more points!

It's so hard when you have to be a levelheaded responsible adult! :grouphug: Definitely no fun! Sending pixie dust your way for a quick sale. pixiedust:

Sounds like you are making the responsible decision given your circumstances. Sorry to hear you need to sell, but it should be great consolation that you can sell it for more than you paid for it and you got those years of great vacations for the cost of dues only!

Best wishes on a speedy sale. :)

I am sure that you have considered renting your points for a few years. You got your investment out of it I believe. I wish you all the best with college!

I am sure that little girl in the picture has appreciated having you at home with her every day instead of Institutionalized daycare much more than a yearly trip to WDW. You made the right decision.

Absolutely, the right thing to do. You can buy at any DVC hotel anytime in the future. You are not loosing it forever, just until you get back on your feet (and through college).

Anytime you want to stay at a DVC, points are less than $10 per point.

Good move!!

I am sorry but you have made a choice and doing what is best for you right now. That is admirable! Good luck!

I'm sorry you're selling, but you're doing the right thing for you and that sweet little girl in your sig.

for your other trip go look at

www.skyauction.com

believe it will save you money for offsite - especially the home away ones.

so sorry you are selling.

Also parting with some of my OKW - so I definitely understand.

just look at it from a different view points - in a few years CRV will be offered. then you can buy there!!!

This is great advice! I booked a Southern Caribbean Cruise on Princess Cruise line for Feb 08... for $300.00 total price for 7 days. This was for a Inside cabin, I then upgraded it to ocean view for additional fee of $300.00. This is a total of $600.00 for 2. I checked the ship the other day, sold out. My rate would have been almost $2800. I got a good deal. I will use skyauction again!!! I could have taken the 7 day cruise for $300.00 for 2. That is just unheard of!

Sending you the very best wishes. I know how hard these decisions are. Good luck with school!:goodvibes

Good for you, making difficult choices. A couple of years ago we were very close.

If we had sold our points, I know that a great choice would have been to rent a week at Bonnet Creek. They are huge accommodation's, close to Disney, beautiful and weeks rent for about $700 or less. I am glad you will hold onto our beloved Wilderness Lodge. :cloud9:
