Sad Pal Mickey story

Just a warning - on day one of our trip we took our new Pal Mickey to the MK. We took turns carrying the cute little guy, and during DS's turn we went to Philharmagic. We have a cutie picture of him sitting with his Pal during the show. On the way out, however, Pal Mickey came off of his clip and fell on the floor as the crowd hustled out of the theatre. We went right back in because he knew he had fallen off, but no luck. Someone scooped him up and had a new Pal for themselves! We tried checking back there, lost and found, City Hall, every kiosk outside the theater, but nope. We were so sad! I felt so sorry for my son; even though we all kept saying it could have happened to any of us, he felt so guilty! :guilty: So here's the advice after my long story: Don't put Pal Mickey on the clip alone. Use the lanyard too! At $70, he's too precious to lose and too expensive to replace! We decided to not replace him and just hope he was in a good home. He only lasted a few hours, but he was a lot of fun!

:sad2: I'm sorry that this happened to you and your DS. Nothing is worse than when you try to make a trip like this special and something or someone takes advantage of you. To the person that scooped up this little boys Pal Mickey and didn't return it to Lost & Found :furious: pirate:

I'm so very sorry for you. It disgusts me to think that someone would steal your Pal Mickey. Two years ago, our son took-off his "fanny pack" during Philharmagic. When we discovered it missing, we immediately went back to search the theater. We were told to check "lost and found" on Main Street. Long-story-short, it did not turn up and Mom and Dad over-reacted, and our day was ruined. Mom and Dad certainly learned a lesson that day...

Amazingly, a few days after we got home, we called WDW and they had found his fanny pack! There wasn't anything of value in it... just sentimental value. BUT, we got it back (and we apologized to our son for being so upset with him).

Two years later, we are heading back to the World. However, we're a little wiser. We now have our name and phone number on all of our kid's stuff (and ours, too). And, if we lose anything in the parks, we're not going to let it ruin our trip. Or, more important, we won't let it ruin our kid's trip.

Thanks for your support everyone! I still get a little misty eyed when I think of it. My husband even told me that I'd feel better when I got home and told my DIS friends about it...

WVParkfan - It's funny you mention putting your name on things. The CM at City Hall actually asked if my name was on the Pal Mickey. At the time I just looked at him like he was crazy - we had just gotten it that morning and it never occurred to me to put my name on him! If he had a few Pal Mickey's in Lost and Found and wouldn't give me one because my name wasn't on it, I would have REALLY cried!

I feel bad for you too. It's always a shock when people hear of someone stealing something at Disney. My brother had his stroller and everything in and on it stolen a few years ago. Seems like you can't trust anyone. I hope someday your son can get a New Pal Mickey.

I'm so sorry you lost your Pal Mickey. It is sad that someone would stoop as low as to steal a child's Pal Mickey in Disney World. :sad1:

I hope that you can go to Disney again, and that this next trip will have a lot of Disney Magic in it.

After our incident, it was also a CM at City Hall that recommended to us to put our names and phone number on our personal property. We never thought about putting our son's name in his autography book before, but we do understand now.

That's so sad! :(

Here's a tip for other belongings like the kids fanny packs, etc. Before you leave home, print several little copies of your name (not child's name), hotel name, dates of stay, home address and home phone. Take wide tape and cover both sides of the paper, then safety pin it inside belongings. The tape will keep the ink from running if it gets wet. I use this method when I can't get to Staples to laminate.

It is simple to go pick up the lost item if they can contact you at your hotel, not so much if you don't find it out they found it when your back home.

Too bad Mickey is not set up with a chip that when he is stolen the chip can be activated to say things like, "Put me down you big thief"! Or, "Help, help, I am being kidnapped", or "I was stolen from a sweet little boy by some big galoot"! :goodvibes

I can't imagine anyone wanting to steal, much less someone's Pal Mickey. What a sicko! :sad2:

We had a similiar thing happen to our son at the MK 2 years ago. We went back to the shop at the MK where we had bought it that morning to get him another one and the CM remembered us. When we told her what happened she disappeared into the back of the store for a few minutes(probably checking with a manager) and then presented my son with a new one at no charge. We got a little pixie dust and were reminded why we love Disney so much in the first place!

So sorry...that's horrible. I'm looking at my Pal Mickey right now and I know how devestated I would be if I lost him. Can't imagine how a child must feel.

When we purchased one of the original Pal Mickeys for our niece, a great CM in the store suggested we use her liquid "white out" to put our initials directly onto the black battery case inside Mickey. I'm glad she did because the original belt clip was not very secure and niece dropped him off her belt at a Kidcot station. Luckily, the Kidcot CM had picked him up and when DH went back, he was able to identify our Mickey. After that, we used a bottle strap!

Hugs to your son...it wasn't his fault.

So sorry you lost your Pal Mickey! That must have really put a damper on your day. :guilty:

I print off labels before we leave home with our name, resort, and cell phone # on them. I figure if anyone turns in our things that the CMs can call us, or the resort can track us through our ressie. We use a small luggage tag on the backpack.

A couple of years ago my son lost his brand new Pal Mickey on Star Tours. He had left it under the seat. We went back to get it. When we got there we ran into someone who saw it. They had gone back to get something that they forgot. It turns out someone gave it to a CM who then took it and put it at the exit doors. From there somebody else picked it up and my son's day was ruined. He had only had got it that day and was very upset. We went to Lost and Found and nobody turned it in, and they couldn't help us. Well, later that day my wife was talking to another CM, she was curious why my son was so unhappy. Well my wife related the story to her about the Pal Mickey. She said wait a minute, went into talk to a supervisor. She came out with a slip for us to bring to the store at our hotel (POR) to get the Pal Mickey replaced for free. We couldn't thank her enough for going above and beyond. It really saved our vacation, and renewed our belief in the Magic of Disney.

I am very sorry for the loss of your Pal Mickey especially having been in that situation myself. I wish yours could have had as happy an ending as ours.

Great idea!

I would never keep him. I would see him tied to a sad kids face and could never look Pal Mickey in the face. I would have given him to the CM at the ride exit.
